Frozen Go 510

New user to this forum. I purchased the Go510 in 2006 it had regular use up until 2010 when a new car with inbuilt satnav took its place relegating the tomtom to the cupboard. I took it out today charged it up popped in the sd card switched it on, I got the drum roll then the home screen but that is as far as it will go, it is now frozen in that state, soft reset with finger on button for over 1 minute no change it will not switch on or off. A call to repair centre said software requires reinstalling £25 not bad but can I not do this myself? I plugged it into PC but nothing!!! Any ideas. Regards LB

Not sure it is the software (might be the battery needs replacement) but make an Explorer, not Home, backup. See here:

Then format the device, don't use quickformat. Restore the backup. Disconnect properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.

See if that works. If not, report back.
