This unit freezes on the TOMTOM logo. Any application up I have tried always comes up version 8.551. What is the latest application version for this unit. I have gone to remove items for computer and removed everything but the map . The reformatted the drive fat32. Still will on give me version 8.551. This unit has been updated every time a new map has been issued. This is the first problem I have ever had. Any suggestions
Thanks Mark

9.510 should be the latest.

1. Do a manual backup of your unit's contents. See here:
https://www.tomtomforums.com/thread...-to-the-computer-and-how-to-restore-it.17864/

2. Delete all the files in the root of the unit. NO folders or their contents.

3. Download this cab file:
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/9.510.2-2039.CAB-navcore-LE.cab

4. Use WinRAR to expand the contents to the device.

Thanks for the response

After the back up is finished do I have to reformat the device to Fat32. Or can I just delete everything but the map off of the device. And the install cab file from above. I'm not sure how to go about deleting the root files of the unit and not folders or the content. Please explain.

Thanks again for your help Mark

Use Explorer, not Internet Explorer, to look at the contents of the drive represented by Windows for the device (something like E:\ or F:\). Just delete the loose files (those not in any yellow folder). You shouldn't need to format the device first.

Ok Thanks I'll give that a try

Ok I went to windows explore. I did not delete any folders, but deleted everything else. I then moved the 9.5102 file. to the TomTom and extracted the files using Winrar. I'm sending you a screen shot of before I removed the files and another one after I extracted the new files. I then went to safely remove hardware and disconnected the unit. The unit turned off like to was suppose to. When I restarted unit it again shows the blue connect to computer screen with the yellow bar running across the bottom. When yellow bar reaches all the way to the right the black screen comes up with TomTom logo and freezes there. When I shut unit down it again would not shut down unless I held the button down for about thirty seconds. Then the screen goes bright green and shuts down.I have tried to restart it by holding button down until i here the drum roll but its the same thing. Again thanks for the help

Assuming that the backup was done as recommended so that we're certain there's a map folder out there to be re-used, now it's time to do the FULL (not 'Quick') FAT32 format.

Start by performing the FAT32 full (not 'Quick') format of your unit. You'll need to connect it, so when Home appears, just close it out for now. We'll get back to it later.
Once the format is complete, disconnect your XL with a proper Windows logical USB disconnect and reconnect again. This time, when Home appears, it's going to suggest some firmware to you since it won't find any on the unit.

Accept whatever firmware is offered by Home and get it installed on your unit.
Perform the proper USB disconnect using Home (I use the little down arrow in the lower right of the Home screen), physically disconnect your unit and connect it again.
IF Home then offers yet more firmware updates, install them until it ceases to offer any firmware updates.

At this time, you can minimize (not close) Home to get it out of your way, and go to your PC backup copy of the US/Canada/Mexico map folder. Copy that entire folder over in to the root of your XL.
Bring Home back to the fore and again, do a proper USB disconnect with Home.
Disconnect your XL from your PC and shut it off. Restart and tell us how you're doing.

I have done the full not quick fat32 reformat several times in the past. This is what TomTom support had suggested. I've followed your steps. But every time that I connect to home it state that I need to install an application. Which is version 8.551. Which I have done. When I disconnect and the reconnect I receive the same message that I need an application. The screen shows no more updates available. Will not let me get past version 8.551. This unit will not connect to the computer unless I hold down the start button until I hear the drum roll

Thanks for you help Mark

@dhn
9.510 made some assumptions about having a prior version loaded. While the 9.510 package includes a 'ttsystem' file (the firmware), it does NOT include a 'system' file (the boot code). Since we have no idea what version Navcore he was on when all of this started, we should really start him out with a version prior to 9.510 that included the requisite 'system' file, then overlay 9.510 on top of that.

I'd recommend trying 9.061 or later first, them moving to 9.510. See >> http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/9.061.xxl2010.CAB-navcore-XXL.cab
That will assure that he's got a more or less up to date bootloader before he tries to lay 9.510 on top of it. I don't know if there was another bootloader released after that for later versions.

Before you do that, MKW, what are the first two characters of your unit's serial number? With that info, I can look for an ever later version than 9.061 that fits your model and includes boot code.

Sorry I don't have the original Navcore file. When this started with this last update I followed TOMTOM support directions on a fix. So the original TOMTOM back up has been replaced. I didn't realize that I should have made a manually back up first. I have always updated this unit four times a year when new maps were available. This started on the tail end of a twelve hour driver from Toledo Ohio to Charleston SC. Three times It went to the blue computer connect screen when the yellow line finished the first two times the map came back up but I had to enter destination again. The third time it froze on TOMTOM logo and has been since

Thanks again Mark

OK. Here's 9.061. Get that loaded and see if Home offers more recent firmware. Should offer 9.510 next (or eventually).

I will give this a try this afternoon when I get home from work. I reformatted unit last night. Fat32 and the Quick format box was unchecked.Just want to make sure on the procedure. First download the above file. The install on device an open it with winrar. Then install map file. After that is done. Go to safely disconnect hardware and disconnect unit. Logon to TOMTOM home and update unit. Continue updating all applications until there are no more available.

Thanks again

Yes, that is exactly the procedure we're hoping you will use. Let us know what Home offers to you.

Yes, that is exactly the procedure we're hoping you will use. Let us know what Home offers to you.

Here is a list of what I did and the order which they were done

#1 Downloaded file

#2 Opened file with winrar

#3 From winrar extracted files to TOMTOM drive

#4 Went to manually made TOMTOM back up

#5 Drug maps folder to TOMTOM drive and let it copy
( screen shot of what drive looked like before I disconnected it )

#6 Went to safely disconnect at bottom right of windows screen

#7 Ejected TOMTOM drive

#8 When ok to disconnect came up. I physically disconnected usb.

#9 When I physicslly disconnected usb screen again went to black TOMTOM logo and froze there.

#10 I did not turn unit off

#11 Login to TOMTOM home reconnected usb. Neither TOMTOM home or computer would recognize drive

#12 Again disconnected usb

#13 Turned unit off. Again unit would not turn off until I held power button down for about 30 seconds

#14 Connected usb

#15 Turn TOMTOM back on

#16 When it connected showed a screen stating it needed an application update
( screen shot of this )

#17 When you click on details. The Application it shows is again version 8.551
( screen shot of this )

#18 Stopped there. Waiting for any further advice

Thanks again Mark

Some more Information. While TOMOM is connected to home the following boxes are grayed out and not accessible. Back up & Restore; Operate XXL; Get free map corrections from map share. Also two more screen shots from Manage device --items on device shows there is an application on device but no description And a shot of map description that is on device
