XXL540 Will not start

I think your explanation is correct, I was getting disk errors warnings from the day 1 when the unit was brand new, but always ignored them thinking that TOMTOM may have done something on purpose & the unit was working fine. It is only on the last update, after many years of use, that I had a problem.
