I want to use my GO Camper Max (2nd Gen) with Traffic Services, using my iPhone 17 (iOS 26.5.1). This can be done either using Bluetooth or Wifi connection. I read here and elsewhere that Bluetooth connection to iPhone doesn't really work, so that leaves the Wifi alternative. However, every time the Traffic Services gets lost (disconnected) after about 5 to 10 minutes. The device works perfectly when connected to my home Wifi, and also when using it with a NetGear mobile wifi router. But it doesn't work stable when it is connected to the iPhone as Wifi hotspot. The connection is established initially, but Traffic Services drops after some time. The Wifi connection itself (between TomTom and the iPhone) continues, so no problem there. Therefore it must have something to do with the way that the iPhone handles the internet connection for the device, trying to connect to the servers that provide the Traffic Services.

My current settings in the iPhone are:
  • eSIM: Data Mode: Standard (other options are "Low Data Mode" and "Allow More Data on 5G")
  • Personal Hotspot:
    • Allow Others to Join: On
    • Maximise Compatibility: On
It seems that when Maximise Compatibility is initially Off, the traffic services do not become available at all. When switched On, I initially get Traffic Services. I experimented with switching it to Off after the connection is established or leaving it On, but in either case the result is the same, Traffic Services get's disconnected after some time. I noticed that when Traffic Services is -dropped, I can get it back by switching the "Maximise Compatibility" option off and on again. I assume that changing that setting creates a 'refresh' of the internet connection to the Traffic Services. But having to do that every 10 minutes while driving is annoying, illegal and potentially dangerous.

I am hoping that anyone knows what the iPhone's settings should be to keep the Traffic Services connection alive.

With my Rider 550 and iPhone wifi hotspot, I found that you have to keep the phone unlocked for the traffic services connection to stay alive.

Settings->Display->Auto-Lock->Never
