TomTom XL frozen

I have tried a soft and a hard reset, but my gps is still stuck on a screen with a blinking red x. I have no idea what i can try next, and im beginning to get impatient. Oh and i have also tried formatting it and that didnt work either. please help

Connect to the computer. Make an Explorer, not Home, backup. If not sure how, see here:

Then do this:
Start-->Run--cmd and in the box that opens, type chkdsk X: /f where X = the drive letter assigned to the unit by Windows.

When that is done, again reformat the unit. Don't use Quickformat. Then connect to Home. A new application should be offered. Install and disconnect properly using the Device Disconnect icon.

Hopefully, you should have the unit boot to 'no maps found'.

If so, connect to the computer and copy the specific map folder from the backup to the unit. If you have a folder simply called maps on the backup, copy it back as well.

Then reboot the unit.
