Hi, guys.
i've been using my tomtom go 720 for a couple of years now.
one day, when i turned it on, the drum sound faded away before it finished playing.
then, there was no sound AT ALL.
not even through FM transmitter or line-out.
I've tried to replace the voices, but still no sound.

when i reset my tomtom, i get the fading drum sound again, then, no sound after that again.

is it hardware issue?? or software issue?
do i have to bring it to tomtom repairer?

the rest of the functions are good.
it's very annoying as i can't hear any voice or sound at all.

thank you so very much, in advance.
cheers.

Do you have the current (8.351) application and map (830)?

If you select a computer voice and then 'test', do you hear anything?

Is your reset using the pin reset on the bottom of the unit?

Try the clear flash tool found here. Download and run it 3 times.

It's not a software issue....or others would be suffering the same thing.

Do you by chance have a backup (hopefully, Explorer, not Home) that you can try to restore? (don't think it'll help if hardware, but ...)

Anyway, things to look at.

Hi, dhn.

thank you very much for your reply.

i've updated to the latest app(8.351) & Australian map(830.2352).
i have a backup using tomtom home & using windows explorer.

i've tested every single voices, mp3, and sample audio files.
none of them could make any sound on my machine.
also, i've downloaded the 'Clear Flash tool' & run it 3 times.
no sound.
yes.. my reset meant the reset button on the bottom.
when i press reset button & restart the tomtom, the sound comes back but it fades away.
before the splash drum sound finishes, the sound fade to mute.
then, no sounds at all after that.

i've found some full backup version of tomtom go 720 & tried that on my tomtom.
same issue. very faint drum sound, then mute again.

anything else i can try??
thanx in advance !!
cheers.

Last shot in the dark ... there is a preference setting for sound, I think, that is to mute the sound. Is that by any chance selected?

It really seems as if it is hardware related. Is it still under warranty, by any chance?

Hi, dhn

thanx again for your reply.

i've tried to change every option for sound, but no success.
also, it's just over 2 years old, so no warranty.

thanx for you help, by the way.
cheers~

Have you got an SD card inserted to the device? if so take it out and see what happens, it's easy to accidently put the app update on the memory card which can mess up where the application looks for voice files resulting in it not finding them and therefore no sound - Mike

Hi, mikealde.

thanx for the tips.
however, i haven't been using SD card at all.
only an original plastic locater is in the SD card slot.
it looks like a hardware faulty. any other ideas??

Thanx, in advance.
cheers !!

I can't remember if it's still there but there used to be a selection to "auto-adjust the sound level". Maybe that's the problem, an oversensitive adjustment?

If not, you're right, it look like a hardware problem.
