Rider 550
I am trying to download gpx files for my TomTom Rider 550 using the TomTom plan. However when I look at the route it does not follow roads, but is straight lines between the points. If I donwload the same file onto a 3rd party map it shows correctly as a route along roads.

Thanks, it works to a point, but can only work with 20 stops. I am working with 10 days of routes which I have purchased through a 3rd party provider. Each day has more than 20 stops. If I sav the routes directly to a sd card without going through the TomTom planner, will this work on my device? Or is there an alternate program I can use? Excuse my ignorance - I don't know anything about how these work, so plain simple english would be appreciated :)

You have a rider convert your GPX files into ITN files an ITN file can contain a maximum of 100 locations.

I'm just trying to figure out how to do that. Google says to make a folder called GPX2ITN on the TomTom drive, but no drive shows up on my computer when I am plugged into it. Or is there another way? (told you I have no idea what I am doing :) )

Those instructions are for older model TomTom Riders where you could see the file structure of the device when it was plugged into the PC.

*.itn files must be transferred to your TomTom by using the MyDrive web page, after logging in to both the web page and your device using the same email and password. The *.itn file is converted to a route.

I’ve managed to get the routes to work. I downloaded as .gpx then hit edit and route and I could see that changed it to the correct route and then I hit save and synced to my device. Hey presto it worked 😃. It doesn’t seem to matter how many points there are on the route. Thanks for the assistance 🙂

how do you know the routes are as the creator of the route intended? I did the same and it came up with 3 alternative routes. not sure which one is what the creator intended, if any.

If you want to travel an exact path as the creator intended, you don't want a route, you want a 'track'. A track is one of the methods TomTom allows, but it is a completely brain dead bread crumb approach, and will route you through closed roads and stopped traffic if they occur anywhere on the track.

A route, on the other hand, assures only that you achieve certain waypoints along the length of the route that are identified by the creator, and therefore allows the routing engine to make decisions about how to achieve each based upon current road and traffic conditions.

I think there is a misunderstanding. My friend created a GPX of a route ( specific road by road, turn by turn route/track...) he sent me the GPX. I used to be able to just import and there you go, i have the exact same route/track. But now it gives me a straight line. When i hit edit there are 3 potential route options. I want the exact turn by turn route/track my friend created.

Would you be willing to attach the *.gpx file here so we can see what it was that you were sent? *.gpx files come in three different flavors, and sometimes a blend of two.

I believe it can also be stuffed into a *.zip file and attached that way. That's how I've been doing it over the years.

Are you going or changing your GPX in a straight line? if it's on Mydrive there are not 3 options.
