Since the recent update of the MyDrive webversion, I can no longer import GPX files…. When I click „Import GPX File“ and select a file, nothing happens. Does anybody know how to make this work?

Note: Before the update of MyDrive (webversion) a couple of weeks ago, import of GPX files worked like a charm.

Well it still works wonderfully, how do you do it?
I must apoligize… Recall that with the previous version, a dialog was started upon selecting the file. Just found out that with the new version, the file is selected and added to the list of available routes…. You then have to select it to edit, rename, sync etc….. In other words, files can be imported :)

I am faced with the same problem. Here is the steps I do:
  • I open the menu on the top left of the page, then cick on "Mes Elements" (My items)
  • I select the "Parcours" (Routes) tab
  • I click on "Importer un fichier GPX" (Import GPX file)
  • I select the file I want to import (attached), then I click on "Ouvrir" (Open)
  • The file selection dialog closes, but nothing appears on the screen and no new route is added to the routes list :(
If Dutchy in DE fixed his problem, could my problem be caused by the GPX itself?

I think it's the Retour.gpx file. I cannot import it either. If I do that with another file the route is added to my list.

Strange... This file is loaded with no problem on different sites accepting GPX files and with other GPX softwares.
Files generated with the same software were also loaded without problem with the previous version of MyDrive (web).

@Old Rider
It looks like the GPX file is not perfect. Inside the GPX file there is only a route section while a GPX should contain a track section as well. Our latest products do not support routes. When you edit the file, as I attached, it will work.

You say "a GPX should contain a track section as well" : this is erroneous!

It seems to me there is some misunderstanding of the GPX format on the TomTom side...
  • A track is a list of points already traveled. it's a record of where you've already been.
  • a route is a list of points where you will pass in the future.
Knowing this, it is normal and logical that a planning software generates a route and not a track.

Anyway, the GPX spec says that a track section is optional:
  • GPX Developer's Manual says that: <trk> optional tracks
  • GPX specification says <xsd:element name="trk" type="trkType" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded">. minOccurs="0" means that this section is optional.
It's strange and surprising that MyDrive is the only tool to interpret GPXs in the way you describe...

Perhaps for TomTom's purposes a track is required, but most other devices do not.
There are 3 flavors of *.gpx... track, route and waypoint, and each has its own special purpose.

Track is a strict trail of 'breadcrumbs'. This is the most inefficient in terms of storage, and as implemented by TomTom, allows the routing engine no latitude at all to make alternate decisions based upon closed roads, etc.

Route is a specific set of turn/decision points. The routing engine is allowed to make its best decisions for achieving each of the route points in sequential order.

Waypoint is a set of points to be visited, allowing the routing engine to make its best decisions as each is selected.

Damned shame TomTom doesn't support the more useful style *.gpx files. We had the rough equivalent to this in the old *.itn file format before TomTom removed that functionality from all of their automotive units.

Hi all, so do we have a work around to continue uploading GPX files into tomtom my drive ?
Personal I was using ITN Converter to generate my GPX... issue is that this is still eXchange 1.0 so it does not load any more. Any help, idea or whatever would be super great.... Else it means my 510 will go to trash and I quit tomtom for ever...

Plan.Tomtom.com.

Impecc !!!
Le workaround fonctionne parfaitement !!!
