Hi,

I'm using a TomTom One XL. Here's some of the boot info:

2003-7 build 1010
hardware tomtom one xl
subID 0 1: 00
Device ID: L12108C00545
Compiled OCT 11 2007

It came with the US & Canada map built in. I managed to break the software when I unplugged it without ejecting the drive after a software update. I did copy the device contents, but after I broke it. I found and followed instructions to recover the software and reset the unit, but it didn't find any maps (of course). I copied back the map folder (listed below) but it still doesn't see the maps (no maps found error). I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,
John

You certainly have the critical files in your USA_and_Canada folder .. both the map files and the key data. The only thing that seems to be amiss is your poi.dat file, which should not be 0 bytes. Your cline.dat file is small, too, but I don't know if that is normal for a unit with your amount of memory. Perhaps another ONE user can pop up with that info.

Let's start with this.. you say you backed up your unit. Was that before or after the 'no maps found' problem? Did you use Home to do the backup or your PC's normal way of copying files?

If we are 100% sure you have a good map folder backup, we may have you reformat the unit and get the firmware one more time. Please don't do that, though, until we know more about your map / backup status.

I should also ask - what map version and firmware version do you have now?

What procedure did you use to clear out and reinstall the firmware the 2nd time?

canderson, my files updated Feb 2012:

poi.dat = 92.1MB
cline.dat = 439.MB

How can I help?

Thanks for the quick responses! It's been several weeks since I did the format and backups, so I'm going on memory. If I recall correctly, I did a manual backup (wife's mac finder) after I broke the unit. Subsequently, I found and followed instructions to format the internal drive, and reload the application software all from my windows 7 laptop (I'm more familiar on windows than the mac). It was after all that, and manually copying the map folder back to the unit that it gave the "no maps found" error.

I'm not sure how to tell the firmware and map versions. Do they show up on boot by holding the power button down?

Thanks,
John

John, I have only dealt with units which have the map installed and recognized, but, I don't believe the firmware and map version info shows up during bootup.

I am assuming that yours boots up and you do have ability to tap the screen to get to various menus. IF instead of going to those menus, tap on the (usual) map screen status bar found either on the right side, or bottom depending on how you've got yours set up. There should be two areas: one for volume adjustment, and the other are to tap is where it gives the "status summary" screen. Tap on that one and you should see the Version (mine is 8.010). Tap once again on the Version area and another screen hopefully will pop up with the ONE XL Device, App firmware, RAM, MAP name & version (mine is v855.2931); not sure what yours will say if anything, and Language.

Let us know if you can access the info you're looking for.

Hi alfie67,

Unfortunately, it seems to have gone from bad to worse. Earlier it would at least let me enter the language, time zone, etc. But now it won't proceed past the TomTom logo screen, even if I use the reset button. If I connect via usb then boot, it displays the "no disconnect" screen and I can access the internal drive fine. I wonder if replacing the poi.dat and cline.dat would help. Any chance I could get a copy of yours and give it a try?

Thanks,
John

John - sure thing. Could you PM me to figure out the details.

alfie, I'm afraid with so few posts, John won't be able to pm you. However, I can send the email address you provided when you registered here to the email address that John used when registering and, that way, you guys can exchange emails.

Go ahead and do that dhn; I had already sent him a PM but wasn't aware that he couldn't reciprocate.

Thanks for helping with the details!

Thanks dhn. We've established email communications; hopefully our file transfers will go without a hitch and they will help solve his ONE XL issues.

No joy yet folks. Files are in place (Thanks Alfie67!) but on startup the unit is stuck on the TomTom logo screen. I wonder if reflashing and reloading the system with the added files will help. At least before it would take me thru the initial setup and get stuck at the no maps found.

Yes, I think another backup and then deleting and reinstalling the loose files (the ones not in a folder) would be in order. There are some help files in the "Articles" forum section.

Hi Andy,
I re-ran thru format and reload up to navcore 8. Recopied my USA_and_Canada map folder with Alfie's replacement files, but no joy. It allowed me to set language, time, voice, etc. but hit the no maps found error next. Anyone have any more ideas?
Thanks,
John

Have you tried the "ClearFlash" utility mentioned in the "1st steps to recovery" article.

Try running it three times (but don't expect to see much happening while it's working).

Also do you have a file in a folder on the TT that is actually called "map"?

In the UK that file isn't very important (it's just used by Home to give you some more info about the map you own) but in the US it seems to be needed.

{cue one of the US mods, please!}

The extra runs didn't change anything. It ran back thru the initial setup, but hit the no maps found error afterwards. There is a folder named "maps" containing a single file named USA_and_Canada.tlv that is 4429 bytes in size.
