MyDrive Connect stuck on "getting ready" forever!

I had made zero changes. During writing the previous message I noticed that the update service address was working (or, at least, gave a healthy error message). Now that it was active, I retried the update and it was successful. The "healthy error message" was returned, because I just used a browser without any of call parameters that the updater application obviously adds to the request.

So, go ahead and retry and let us know what happened!

So I tried again at home, neither of my tomtoms would update.
I tried updating at another place and everything updates fine.
Soooo it looks like it's my broadband at home. I don't see any parental or other controls enabled and couldn't find anything untoward in the router settings. I'm a bit stumped now then!

Any chance your home PC is running a VPN? I don't know how sensitive TomTom's servers may be to that, but stranger things have happened. One of my favorite PC apps won't run properly if I have NORD running.

Have also seen some firewall software that didn't announce what it was doing but was NOT happy to see a little mini-server connected to the PC (your TomTom looks like a server of sorts, with an IP address and everything -- that's what MyDrive Connect sets up).

No vpn on my laptop, and one of the devices has built in WiFi so doesn't need a pc/laptop anyway. This tells me it has to be the router or ISP, I just can'tsee why when it used to work. I also tried it with the router firewall switched off. That didn't work either!

@sadsplace Disconnect the GPS unit from a computer.

1. Open the MyDrive Connect.

2. Empty the Downloads folder via the settings and click Save Settings.(It can be done by- Click on the cogwheel at the top right corner > Click on Downloads>Click on "Empty Downloads" and "Deselect the download updates on my computer" > Click on Save settings.

3. Restart the GPS unit > reconnect > Wait for an hour and check.

OK thanks but that won't help my GPS that updates via WiFi directly, I think they're both related to my ISP router settings

If you are updating via Wi-Fi, is your GPS also connected to a USB port on your computer?

So I have two GPS units. One connects directly to WiFi with no cables, the other connects via USB to my laptop. Neither updates at home but updates fine at a different place on a different network.
My home broadband works absolutely fine for everything else!

Your GPS, which updates via Wi-Fi, should work.

Perhaps the saved credentials are incorrect?

Have you tried forgetting the connected network and reconnecting?

That's worth a try.
Still a bit strange that the laptop connected GPS doesn't update either, and that is connected fine to my WiFi. I've even tried my old XP laptop that I always used to update it with successfully.

For GPS devices that connect to your laptop.

Try connecting your laptop to your network via a cable instead of using Wi-Fi.

Already tried that! Was one of the first things I tried. I'm convinced it's something to do with either my ISP or router that's changed.

In my opinion, your problem is your router?

When you tried elsewhere, did you use a router?

You must plug the USB connector directly into a USB port on your computer.

One of the GPS units plugs directly into the computer, the other GPS works direct to WiFi so no cable.
Yes there is a router at the place where it works, but it's a different ISP and physical router

I have this exact issue after not using it for around a year.

I have found that my log files show:
50331748 Error ProxyGetRequest::eek:nError Network error: Connection Refused Error error code: 1 error string: Connection refused

I'm having the same problem. MyDrive Connect is latest version and I've selected a map and quick GPS fix to update.
The screen says "Downloading Items and the progress thingy is saying "Getting Ready" but nothing makes any progress. I've cleared the cache and reset the sownload folder in which the xml file shows:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urls cacheSuspended="false" cacheSuspendedType="PND"/>

Does this give any helpful clues?

Aftyer what seems like 5 minutes the screen changes back to say Connected and invites me to view updates - I'm going round in circles here and would appreciate any help offered.
Thanks,
David

"Why don't you update your device?" I hear you ask.
I tried that and simply prefer the old layout, I have become so accustomed to having speed and speed limit clearly showing on the bottom left corner that I rarely look at dial of the car.
If we can't fix this update problem I might have to turn to the car system and use TT just for speed monitoring...

I thought I'd explain how I got it to work.

Although TT My Drive was updated to the latest version it seems to be flakey. I found the following (IIRC) and it worked!
This is on Windows

Close TTMD
Uninstall through Control Panel
Find folders in c:/users/username/AppData/Local/Tomtom and delete
Install TTMD from TT site

It worked and updated the map - I hope this might help others out there.

Similar problem to OP and subsequent posters. Trying to update a VIA 135 (yes, it's old, but works fine) and gets stuck at "Getting Ready". Problem first experienced November 2025 and TomTom's customer care team resolved the issue by advising un-set the check-box for "Downloads on my computer (recommended)" and the updates went directly to the device. Fine until the latest version of MyDrive Connect (MDC 5.3.5.5140) where un-setting the check-box makes no difference and the update attempts the download to the computer. Just spent about 30 minutes interfacing with their Bot to no avail. I think the problem is with MDC.

They really are rubbish at letting people know, my mydrive stopped working three days ago and now just keep saying wrong username or password. They could have put it on the opening screen as with the santa hat on the car!!! TomTom go still evens says sync with MyDrive.
