Hello,
I'd like to share a recent experience I had with my GO 620. It might help someone else who has a similar problem.
A while ago, I had the dreaded constant restarting loop. This forum provided the solution because TomTom didn't seem to care that customers were experiencing the problem. By logging out of my account, by stopping synchronisation, the restarting loop suddenly stopped.
Wonderful — except that when I added an address to My Places on the GO 620, it was no longer synchronised with my account.
One day I logged back in to synchronise my account and, fortunately, the restarting loop didn't return. Great!
However, not long afterwards I noticed that speed/safety cameras were no longer being displayed in locations where I knew they were still present. My TomTom Traffic was still working correctly, and I would regularly report the locations of mobile cameras.
I tried to delete and reinstall the cameras on my system. I connected the GO 620 to my PC, went to Contents and selected Uninstall. I then got the "UPDATE DEVICE THE EASY WAY" message telling me that I could do it on the device.
NO — I couldn't uninstall/delete them!
I tried this many times over the next few weeks. I even tried holding down the power button until the text screen appeared, but that didn't fix the problem either.
I was getting to the point where I was seriously considering doing a factory reset. I was also at the stage of thinking about throwing TomTom in the bin and never recommending another TomTom device. I was even researching Garmin as a replacement.
Then I started going through every setting available on my GO 620.
I eventually got to the screen showing that I was connected to my TomTom account. I remembered that I had enabled this a few months earlier.
I stopped synchronisation.
Suddenly, all the speed/safety cameras started appearing again!
So, for now, I no longer need to replace my GO 620.
I have no idea exactly what is happening behind the scenes, but somewhere in the TomTom software there appears to be a problem associated with being logged into an account/synchronising. In my case:
Logged in and synchronising → speed/safety cameras missing
Stopped synchronisation/logged out → speed/safety cameras appeared again
I'm posting this in the hope that it might help someone else before they resort to a factory reset or, like me, start looking at replacing their TomTom.
One other thought while I'm here...
I feel TomTom missed an opportunity a few years ago when dash-cams started becoming popular. Here I was with a TomTom device already attached to my windscreen, with a clear view of the road directly in front of it. What a great place to incorporate a dash-cam!
I would have happily spent $$$$ on a TomTom navigation device with a good integrated dash-cam. I certainly wouldn't want a TomTom and a separate dash-cam both sitting on my windscreen.
Anyway, the important thing for me is that my GO 620 is working properly again.
Has anyone else experienced speed/safety cameras disappearing while logged into their TomTom account, only to reappear after stopping synchronisation?
