TomTom Model(s)
Go 720
I have a charger for my ipod that connects to a standard AC outlet. The cord leading from it is removable and the connection point on the unit is a regular USB port. Can I connect my tomtom dock to this rather than to my computer for charging or should I buy a unit specific to the 720?

Yes it will work.

ipod car charger on the tomtom 720?

i have a griffin power jolt (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powerjolt) for my ipod that came with an adapter that fits into the tomtom 720 (charger-->USB-->adapter--->tomtom).

the griffin site gives no indication of what is coming out of it.
according to this apple document (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60939) the Apple iPod Output Power is
* 12 V
* 1.0 A

the car charger that came with the tomtom says that its output is 5V 2A

i don't know enough about electricity to know if this will work

i would assume it would, as the tomtom does fine on USB....
...is it all the same?
very confused

Any 5VDC Charger

Any charger that delivers 5VDC at around 1 amp will work fine on your TomTom. I use my computer's USB port, a charger I bought for my Dell Axim3, or my Razor cell phone charger to charge my TomTom.

5 Volts vs. 5.2 Volts for USB charger

Any charger that delivers 5VDC at around 1 amp will work fine on your TomTom. I use my computer's USB port, a charger I bought for my Dell Axim3, or my Razor cell phone charger to charge my TomTom.

So, after a little more digging i have discovered that the griffin powerjolt has an output voltage of "5.2 Volts DC at 1 Amp"

Will the extra 0.2 Volts damage the tomtom in any way, or is a USB charge just a USB charge that will go faster or slower depending on how much juice is coming out?

Again, forgive my ignorance on matters electrical...
