Ipod TomTom Question

Ok so i have a question

just bought an ipod and paid $84.99 does this actually work with the ipod ? im doing a 312 mile journey in 4 weeks time and need to rely on this app.

how does it perform ?

does it need the internet to navigate me

Don't think the ipod has GPS so the only way I can think is to jailbreak it and download a program which will let you connect to an external GPS box.
Had to do this with the wfies iphone as it's internal GPS packed in.
