Flashing Battery sign on screen

Tom Tom 6200 professional, a red battery sign keeps flashing on screen, on off button seems not to work so I can not do areset on device.
I have just changed the battery & seemed to work ok for a short time whilst at home, but once in the car I got the Tom Tom load up screen & drum role then this.
have tryed a long charge from wall socket no joy?

It may be your cable that is defective, try another cable.

Thanks will try this ,but it was a new cable ? willtry old cable to see if that works.
