Flashing red X on TT Start

Hi, this might be a long shot as the device is old and no longer supported, but can anyone help at all?

I have a TomTom Start, model 1EX00. The device will power on, but I get a red flashing X on the bottom right corner, and what looks like a CD on the bottom left.

I've manually backed up the device, and have also backed up and restored via HOME. I've done a factory reset on it, but still getting that red flashing X which won't let me past the home screen. Is there anything else that can be done? I'm not hugely technical so would appreciate any help!

Thank you. I've just followed all those steps, but still getting the flashing cross unfortunately...

It says it is a TomTom Start with 1GB memory and it updates through TomTom HOME

Incidentally, when I have pushed a paperclip into the reset button, nothing has happened on screen. I've held it in there for 60+ seconds and the screen remains off. When I turn the device back on and the drums start, the flashing cross still comes back on.

Candidly, I think the device might be toast.
