Can a GO 720 be used without maps as an mp3 player?

I want to use my GPS unit as an mp3 player. I inadvertently deleted my maps. I don't need the GPS function.

It should still be able to play mp3s.

Do you not have a backup of the maps?

Just out of curiosity -- did you ever back up your unit (either manually, or using Home)? Alternately, do you still have the PC you were using when you first connected up your 720?

I don't think I backed it up at all. Note sure which computer I first connected it to. Had the 720 for a long time. What would I look for on that PC if I can determine which PC it was?

Connect device to Home. Then, Manage my Device (2nd screen)-->Items on Computer, maps. Anything show there?

Take a look in My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Download\complete and see if there are any maps there. If you took advantage of the Latest Map Guarantee when you bought it, it will still be there.
