It's not the left turn, it's the U-Turn that TomTom doesn't like (last step in the Google Map directions).
For some dumb reason, TT adds a 5 minute delay for a U-Turn, which constantly gives you such directions where you have to take a weird detour in order to avoid the simple U-Turn...
