Red X help on new XL

So i just bought the ONE XL and installed the TT Home on my mac. plugged it in and it said i needed updates. so i did, but i couldn't back up it just stuck at 1%. skipped it and installed the updates. now all i get it the red x and it won't do anything. can someone please please help me?

When you installed the updates, did you remove the unit from the computer and then turn it back to to run the new firmwire? If not, what did you do?
How did you remove your unit from the computer?

If you connect the unit to the computer and you go to the removable drive and see what is in that drive?
