[HELP] flashing red X

hi guys,
i need help with my tomtom XL.
i am having this red flashing X on startup and when i try to connect it to the pc, the pc prompts me to reformat the device.
i tried resetting the gps but still no go.

hope someone can help me.

You do NOT want to format the unit without a map backup. Do you have one? Or, is the map that was on the unit an upgrade from that which originally came on the unit?

im sure i have a map backup, somewhere in my pc
