Question about Tomtom maps

I'm going to update the map on my 730. I'm not sure if I want to spend the extra for the free updates for a year now that TomTom dropped the price of the 840 maps. Of the four map updates a year. Were the 840 maps a big update and then the other three small updates? Or are all the map updates the same value? I searched but couldn't find a answer.

There are reports that the 840 map was the first that incorporated tens of thousands of users' mapshare corrections.

Some areas saw great improvements in the mapping; some, not so much.

In my experience (Northeastern US):

There was minimal improvement in IQroutes from map 825 to 840. The biggest jump was 810 to 815, and the 815 to 825 jump was significant, too.

Lane guidance improved dramatically each release, now it's in almost every two-lane or wider sideroad around Boston, although the sideroads guidance is often erroneous. I suspect map 845 will fix much of that.

Road updates were improved here-and-there from 825 to 835, with a ton of improvements in 840. I saw some news reports that Teleatlas and Tomtom took a while to get their mapshare correction/integration up and running, so if this new pace continues I expect huge changes in the next couple maps, with the maps caught up to "reality" across the US in 1-2 quarters.
