One's loosing satellite connectivity

I have a One and a One 3rd Edition that pick up 4 or 5 satellites on start up, but then loose them after about an hour or so, even after countless GPSfix updates. Is this common with older units? Do the recievers go bad? Or is there something else I can update to bring these back to life? Thanks

Can a weak battery cause this even though the unit is plugged into an external power supply?

Certainly if the external supply is a usb port.
