TomTom Model(s)
Start 42

Edited Google translation of Klaus' post.

My Start 42 showed a dimmed screen - not only when I charged the device via my computer but also when connected to the USB socket in the car.
After TomTom Service was unable to suggest a solution to the problem and a number of emails, I found the solution in the Internet, which I would like to make available to everyone here:

The problem was solved with an adapter "Data Blocker".

I can only guess as to how the problem came about, which only appeared after a year and a half when updating my maps via the computer. Obviously, this created a bug that recognizes all USB sources to be for charging only. In that case, it seems to make sense that the screen is dimmed. It was very uncomfortable for me this summer that this also remained so in normal use, and I hope that everyone who has the same problem can also be helped with the "Data Blocker" (costs 5-7 €).
