I have tried to contact TOMTOM on this but as of today it has been one week and they have not answered me

Is there anyway to turn off the "Lock to Road" function on the Go 720. I found an app that will disable static navigation and now would like to disable the lock to road function.

Where exactly are you finding this function that you wish to disable? I don't remember seeing such a choice anywhere.

Static Navigation (basically function that averages your position to "smooth" your location when stopped) can be disabled using the application that was created by a fellow that goes by oyvindk on www.gpspassion.com

The app can be downloaded here

http://www.gpspassion.com/download/statnav_on_off.zip

The download has the "how to"

The reason I wanted to disable static nav is that will allow you to use your GPS while on foot and have a map that updates quickly as opposed to waiting for you to cover 50+ yards or walk faster than 4 mph.

I would like to disable "lock to road" so the GPS doesn't insist I am on a road that I am not on once I leave the road.

The option to disable either is not there by default to the best of my searching. Oyvindk has given us the option to do kill static nav - Was asking if anyone has found a way to turn off LTR as well.

Well, this is in the 'readme' for the application:
-----------
Just unzip the contents onto the root folder of your TomTom (remember backup!). When you restart
your TomTom you will have two additional icons in the main menu that you can use to turn on and off
static navigation. Note that after you've pressed one of these icons, you must turn the TomTom off
and then back on again (using the power button). If you don't do this, the navcore application will
not read any GPS data until you do. A full reset (with the "hidden" reset button) will restore
the default setting, turning static navigation on again. It may be restored by other occurrences
also, but I am not sure about that. It is easy to identify whether it is on or off by looking at
the GPS status screen. If the position and/or the direction moves when you are stationary, then static
navigation is off.
---------------
So, have you followed the instructions precisely? It seems to me that the two icons you need should appear if the steps are followed.
Then again, since I haven't tried to install, there may indeed be a glitch. Dunno. Why not direct a query to the user at gpspassion. He may be able to assist.

you are missing my question

I know how to disable static nav - works like a charm.

I also want to disable "lock to road" - asking if anyone knows how to do that

Have you tried contacting the owner of the program.
Sounds like a cool application.
What is static navigation?

re-read my posts to learn what static navigation is and why you might want to disable it and a way to disable it

HOWEVER the question I am asking - does anyone know how to disable LOCK TO ROAD

What happens if you choose a "Walking route"? Does it still "lock" you to a road?

No - forgot about the KB at TT and have spent too much time on the phone with sprint dealing with changes to my account they screwed up
