tomtom rider 450, tomtom go premium x
hi, i have a rider 450 which connects to my-drive connect perfectly, but when i try to connect my go premium x to my drive it wont let me, a window pops up to say i can update the unit via WiFi. the thing is i know that but want to purchase a new voice but it will not open in my-drive connect. has anyone got any idea how to override this pop up so i can use the go premium through my-drive as well.the only information i can find states that this is possible.
many thanks.
charlie.

You don't use MyDrive connect to purchase the additional voice. That's done directly on the web site.

Hi, cheers for the reply, but the voices was part of the reason I want to connect to my drive, I prefer to plan routes on my pc monitor because of the bigger screen then send to sat nav as well, how would that work?
Cheers
Charlie

I'm guessing we are talking about two different issues now.
As for the voices, when you log in at TomTom's main site (in your case, https://www.tomtom.com/en_us/navigation/, you eventually log in with the email and password that you have assigned to your device to make a voice purchase.
It sounds as though at one time you had an older "Nav2" device that worked through TomTom Home to buy maps, voices, etc. That's not how they're doing it these days.

As for planning, that's a different web site that TomTom also confusingly calls MyDrive (we asked them not to do that, but...) at https://mydrive.tomtom.com/en_gb/
You can log in there - again, using the SAME email and password as for the device - and create a route that can be transferred to your device. If you have any custom POI (*.ov2) files, you can also drop them at this site for automatic transfer to your device.

Be aware that if you connect your device to your PC, if MyDrive is up and running, anything you are doing with the device is done across the USB cable when it comes to updates, etc. The MyDrive user interface isn't of any particular use, but the hardwired connection back to TomTom is supported by the MyDrive app. Depending upon your situation, that may be preferable to using WiFi to accomplish the same thing.

Cheers for your reply, maybe I read it wrong when I thought it said that the unit will connect through my drive. That's why I had it in my head that was the only way I could set out a route and transfer to my device through the usb. Now you've made me realise it will but through the wifi. Many thanks for your reply again. Charlie

You can send data from the MyDrive Web interface either across WiFi or the hardwired connection.

Just keep in mind that if you want to move the data via wired connection (which takes precedence, by the way, when connected), MyDrive Connect needs to be running, even though the user interface is of no value to you. It's the MyDrive Connect app that makes the USB to TCP logical connection from your device back to TomTom's servers if you're connected by wire.

hi, thank you very much again,i understand now and have plotted a route which i sent to device and received straight away.now i realize there is no need for using my-drive at all.
cheers for your time, all the best.
charlie.

Not if you have a good WiFi connection, no.
You MAY find that map downloads and the like operate somewhat more quickly across a hardwired link, but much of the time, the speed is being dictated by TomTom's server anyway, and it won't be any faster one way or the other.
