dead tomtom 300

i have a 300, the green light stays on when plugged in but it will not power on. i tried changing the battery but it still does not come on. does this need the sd card to power on? (it is missing). anyone have any ideas?

There is no internal memory on this unit. Everything is on the SD card: operating system and map.
