TomTom Model(s)
One XL
I turned on my TomTom One XL after some time and got only black screen with bootloader. First see TomTom logo with drums, and after it black bootloader screen. I do not touched device button, etc... while power up. Device turns on automatically after USB cable insert.

On screen is bootloader version S5.5274, Device ID starting GI

When I try to reset unit or hold power button or 3x time power button press, unit still only display bootloader. There are no device USB connection in computer device list. Is there something what to do?

GI = XL IQ Routes ² / XL Classic, 2GB, HOME NAV2 EoL which means no further maps or other updates by Tomtom.

The 3x button press for recovery mode doesn't work on these older models.

Might the power button be stuck when you are pressing it?

If the button is not stuck, the device certainly thinks that it is. Continuity across the button beyond the normal amount of time is the only way that you can get to that screen. The device thinks the button is being held down.

I measure conductivity across button and in is open and after press is shorted, so button works. Signal traces to CPU and other smd components around this signal trace seems OK, so unit is propably ready to go to trash bin? There is no USB connection either and flashing of unit FW by JTAG or in flash programmer is propably out of my skills...

EDIT: there is no 3.3V on power on button pin, so there is problem with this voltage on this pin.

Oh, I repaired it. Connected 10k resistor from 3.3V source to button pin and now GPS is working again. :);)

I only need software for device, beacuse internal disc drive needs to be formatted. Please do you have link for software?

Curious -- why does the device need to be formatted?

Before you format the device, copy the entire device to your PC. Literally, copy the entire device to a folder on your PC. This is a CRITICAL step because you MUST preserve your map(s) before the formatting. We recommend this process >> https://www.tomtomforums.com/thread...-to-the-computer-and-how-to-restore-it.17864/

Next, can you provide the first two characters of your serial number? I need that to point you to the correct firmware for the device in case Home does not do it automatically.

And good catch on the problem with the switch. I wonder where the pull-up voltage went that should have been on the switch?

OK. I have that as the XL IQRoutes² (also known in some markets as XL 335SE) with 2GB memory.

The last full firmware package that I show for this device (which will work, but which Home may later try to replace with something more current) is this >> http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/9.151.ggi.CAB-navcore-XL.cab
However, now that the device is operational, when connected to Home without any firmware (freshly formatted), Home should offer current firmware for your device.

Still wondering about the need for formatting, though.

Hello, thank you for link. Device is powering now on, but still needs formating and format cannot be finished. So there should be problem with flash chip and device is unrepairable. I tried many utilites to force format, but I getting IO error.

If you have a good USB cable and cannot use a standard FAT32 Full format on the device, you're probably in trouble there, yes.
