Hi all...

Recent TomTomer. I don't know if I'm the only person having this issue or not. I tried to search, but I didn't come up with any answers. Here's my problem.

When my phone (Verizon Samsung Gleam), is connected to the 720, I can barely hear what the other person on the phone is saying. They can hear me fine...what's going on?? How can I up the volume? I'm totally at loss here. Thanks for any help.

Z.

Found the answer. Found out that volume on the phone controls the handsfree volume on TT while you're in the middle of a call. Hope this helps other newbies.

Hello Z,
Yes you have found the solution.
FYI, if your in a phone call and u notice the sound crackling, it means the battery is running low, plug it in and u'll notice a difference.

Hi Pedro,

Thanks for the heads-up on that. Just one more question...So, is the volume of my TT handsfree limited to the maxium volume on the phone? Or...is there a secret trick way to increase the volume even more?

Interesting I will have to try that although it is exactly the opposite of my problem. The volume through TT is excellent but callers tell me they cannot hear me too well. No background noise is reported.

I'll try it out and get back to you on that.

Maybe you have already tried this, but unchecking the option to 'Link Volume to Noise Level'. increases the volume than usual for the voice prompts and mp3. This should work for the handsfree also, I have not tried this with handsfree.
This option is available in the Change Preferences->Volume Preferences (page 2).
Cranking the volume upto 100% with the option unchecked would cause the audio in the internal speaker to crack.

Microphones in Handsfree device are usually directional. But I am not sure if this is the case with TT. Worth a try to keep the TT facing you when you speak.

I have it that way directly under the rear view mirror.
Had a short conversation today with someone in a hurry and could not ask him about my sound volume. I had turned up the cell phone and if I get a negative feed back about today's call I will disable 'Link Volume to Noise Level' for the next test.

Just got confirmed that the volume of my voice came out OK.

I'm very new to this forum and I have a 730 but I am having this very same volume issue. When I try to adjust the volume on my BB 8310 it does not function, just no response, when connected to the 730.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jim

Gocats,

Have u tried changing your volume WHILE you were on the phone with someone via BT to TomTom? That worked for me.

Ever since then, regardless if 'Link Volume to Noise Level' is on or off and no matter what volume setting of the cell phone, everyone says that my voice comes out so faint that they cannot really hear me.

When the 720's came out, a bunch of units had to be returned by owners because of the faint sound when someone was trying to hear the unit's owner. Has yours always had this issue that you know of?

Yes, I would say so. I have only tried using it for the last two weeks.

Bringing this one back up... is this the case too if you are having the call sound go thru your car stereo speakers? I would think that you could have more control over the stereo than the unit itself.

There is no free frequency here in the Greater Toronto Area.
Looking forward to trying the FM broad casting once I will be in a remote area.
If the gas prices remain I may take the Beartooth Highway come June.
(By that time I should also have installed and gotten used to Tripmaster for instant flash back with Google Earth.)

As reported elsewhere the faint microphone volumes seems to have been solved.
For some reason, with "Link Volume to Noise Level" disabled the volume appears to
have reset itself to 60 %. Getting or making a call I now make sure the volume is at 100 %.
With volume not linked to noise level 100 % is much too loud for the road instruction speech.

How come I never experienced this on my XL I just sold? I just don't understand how on a digital device these symptoms can occur because of a low battery. This would only show that this battery SERIOUSLY is underpowered/incorrect for this model. It's bad enough the 720 doesn't get anywhere NEAR the advertised battery run time of 5 hours, but also when the battery is low, the device acts all crazy?

There is NO DOUBT that they are using the wrong/severely underpowered battery. That makes me wonder what the overall lifetime of the battery will be for these units. They are being over stressed with these units. I really wouldn't mind if the device were a tiny bit thicker to fit in the round longer lasting battery than the flat crappy battery.

Try 88.7 as a free frequency.
Weird, I posted a lengthily reply yesterday and it ain't here. (Better make sure I post it after previewing!)

When I tried 88.7 in the closed garage yesterday it was crackling but one could make out what was being said.
After switching on the 930 and setting the frequency to 88.7 the sound stopped immediately and, clear as a bell, I got "You have reached your destination".

Within a few seconds there was a pressure build up at the sides of my head culminating in a pain just under the top of my skull and I switched off the radio.
I don't know if the TT was broad casting a complimentary frequency to the one from the station in Buffalo, creating a "white noise" effect.

Leaving the house later that day, switching on the radio, WBFO Buffalo comes in loud an clear, down here almost at the lake.

Interesting aside, when switching on the TT in the garage it displayed 'Connected to SCH-U510', my Samsung mobile laying on the desk in the office.

I have a Belkin FM transmitter, and from experience I just have to play around with stations to see which empty station is clearer than others. Many times I can even select a station that is VERY clear and very popular around here and my FM transmitter will over power the radio station's transmission :)

My friend suggested I tried pranking people in cars next to me and it worked very well. I umm... downloaded ...porn sounds.. ehh.. and then would listen to what station the car next to me at a red light would be listening to, then I'd tune the FM transmitter to that station, and all of the sudden their car is playing loud porn sounds. :) I don't know if the TomTom transmitter is that strong but my Belkin has up to 30 ft range.

Crazy thing is that I once also did get a headache like that but maybe it could just be coincidence.. I'm not sure.
