XXL Safety Alerts

Do the safety alerts work if you are NOT on a planned route?
IOW, will the alerts sound if I am just driving down the road with the map displayed without a destination selected?

Can't speak specifically to your XXL, but that's the way the GO series works. Doesn't matter if you're aiming it somewhere or not. Doesn't even matter if it's aimed at the street you're on provided it's at an intersection you are approaching.
