Nighttime screen too bright XXL 540 safety hazard

My XXL 540 has large bright white lettering on the status bar that are a hazard for nighttime driving.
If the unit is mounted on the windshield, it interferes with night vision.

I have night brightness set to 0%, and I have a dark theme (afrika) for the map. But the status bar stays WAY to bright.
Hard to believe TT does use appropriate lettering colors for night (green or red) and allow darker dimming

Any options for further reducing brightness except for blacking out the screen completely between directions? Third party options?
