TomTom Model(s)
via1500
My Via 1500 has recently started losing the route map screen and reverting to a previous menu/selection screen. I only need to touch the DONE button to bring back the route map but this is happening every few seconds. Voice directions are not affected. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated as I use my Tom Tom every day. Thank you.

It would be a more unusual thing for a 1500, but we have seen some older units suffer from crud under the bezel (between the bezel and the screen) that causes phantom presses of the screen, especially with temperature changes. These older resistive screens are sensitive to pressure anywhere. So let's start with something simple. Run a business card or a bit of heavy mylar film or whatever else SOFT that you can get between the bezel and the screen around the entire perimeter, focusing on trying to remove anything that might be between the bezel and screen.

Thank you so much friend. Your suggestion seems to have done the job. I used one of my own business cards and took out some dirty looking stuff. I've used the device several times since, in a fairly wide range of temperatures, with complete success. Thanks again.

Glad it's sorted, and good to know that this model may also be susceptible to this old problem. Will keep that in mind for future owners with the same complaint.
