TTR2 Car mount & sound

Hi,
Does the car mount for the TTR2 only work if the mounting cradle is connected to a power source?
Without the charger in my unit doesn't recognise the car mount.
Any thoughts?

I think to get sound, yes. you have to power the cradle.
