Thanks for the help on creating a raw backup for my TT720. I have some more questions.

[1] I had a TT720 before and have an existing account with TT. Should I use the same account to register my new TT720 or create a new one? The reason I'm asking is b/c I plan to use the "latest map guarantee" and I don't want TT to think I'm trying to get the latest map on the original TT720 I purchased.

[2] I want to give a big shout-out to all who have contributed POIs!! They are the greatest. Question is, I've noticed that there will be 2 Targets (I also saw 3 Circuit City's at the same location) on the map, right next to each other. I know there is only 1 Target there. Why is it showing multiple icons for the same, one, location? Is it showing 2 b/c it's showing the original POI that TT720 came loaded with in addition to the Target POI I downloaded?

[3] How could I, someone who has never created a POI list, add a store to the list? I downloaded the Best Buy POI and noticed a store that was not on my TT and would like to add it if possible (and easy enough for me to try). Do I need a software to make any modifications?

[4] I plan on using the latest map guarantee soon. Do I need to update the firmware on my TT720 in order to DL the latest map, which I believe is 8.10?

Tomtom allows the switching of devices on the same account once every 6 months. It can be done by calling TT but it is much 'cleaner' if you register the new 720 under a different account (email address)

That is exactly the reason. You can delete either a custom dl poi or a built in one (the newst firmware allows this) by Preferences-->Manage POIS-->Delete POI and select 'near you', 'in city' and carry on from there

Nope...same preference selection as above but instead of Delete POI, choose Add POI and when you choose a location (in city, near you...) you'll see a list of poi CATEGORIES you downloaded. Scroll to the one you want, select it and add the poi in it.

8.15 is the latest and you need firmware 8.3 to make use of it.

[1] Yes, I think you will need to establish a new PLUS account. After speaking with TT Customer Support, they pair device numbers with accounts. Your older PLUS account is more than likely paired with your older TT unit, thus denying you the ability to use the LMG.

On a side note here, most newer TT720's have a buggy LMG (LatestMapGuarentee) function. When using the option, many users are told that their time has expired. You will at that point have to contact TT Customer Support so they can open up a ticket on your PLUS account. You will then get an email asking you to supply them with proof of your purchase. Once you do this, a 2nd fast phone call and they will unlock it for you over the phone. They did this all for me in about 20 minutes.

[2] No clue here...Im a TT newb! :p

[3] See my answer to your 2nd question. :D

[4] I'm not sure, but it seemed from the two TT Customer Support specialists I spoke to, it is a flaw in the system used for establishing when the unit is first "used". They explained to me that if a unit sits on the shelf at the store for too long, the validation system will automatically think the unit has gone past it's LMG time-frame. Again, you will probably have to make 2 phone calls.

I hope some of this might have been helpful. Good luck and best wishes fellow TT Newb!

8.15 is the latest and you need firmware 8.3 to make use of it.
FYI, there's a bug in 8.3 related to deletion of a POI. Instead of the last screen showing "Back" and "Delete", it will show "Back" and "Dial". Just hit the "Dial" button. It's really the "Delete".

Gotta say, I'm REALLY unimpressed with the amount of testing TT did before they rolled out 8.3. The tech support guy dutifully recorded each and every bug I recited to him over the phone. One hopes they pay attention back in Engineering.

Why do you think 8.3 would have any better testing than any other firmware release....which would appear to be next to none.
