TomTom Crashed

My TomTom has crashed. Here's the rundown of the events;

I turned it on, all was fine, I even used it for a trip.
I connected it to my computer (I use Apple) and downloaded the latest software updates etc. and then it said leave the device connected whilst it restarts. I left it 10 minutes after which I got annoyed and unplugged it. Now it won't work at all. I tried to "restart" it by pressing the on/off button for 15 seconds, but the same screen keeps coming up, the one with the a drawing of the TT, a flashing red cross on the right hand side and a disk in the bottom left hand corner.
How do I sort this out?

You disconnected the unit improperly from the computer,not letting it write the information to the flash drive properly.
