North America now = US + Canada?

You shouldn't let the price in euros bother you. VISA will just do the conversion for you. They will probably give you a better exchange rate than if TomTom put its prices in US$, which they would no doubt round up.

In your case, purchasing from Canada is going to require a conversion anyway.

The map prices seem to be a real bargain right now. Is there a sale on?

That's a good point, although I don't have a VISA, just MBNA Master Card and American Express.

They have a sale, according to the UK site, that maps are 50% off till the end of January.

Well they finally agreed to give me the US and Canada 7.10 update for free, all I had to do was giving them a copy of my receipt as a proof of purchase. I have to say that I started complaining by opening a ticket on the "my questions" section on their website 9 days after purchase about the fact that the included map didn't cover the merger of my local city with almost all of it's surrounding cities that happened 4 years ago, resulting in the name changing of a lot of the streets names that were duplicates. I also told them that my unit was not useable in my area because of this and that the unit was only 45 days old.

I guess that staying polite but firm in my arguments payed off, so I don't have anything negative to say about them, on the contrary.

I can only add that like I said earlier, I was offered the 7.10 update by one of their customer service reprensentative at $49,95 in US funds by doing a manual order with them, instead of 49,95 euros by doing it with the Home software as you can read in my post way up in this thread. So I encourage everyone to try for it by calling them, and post in here if you are successful.

7.10 maps from UK site

I was successful in purchasing the 7.10 USA and Canada maps from the UK site...NOTE: North American Maps ver 7.10 do not exist, from what I have heard only USA and Canada are available now. When I tried to purchase the 7.10 USA and Canada maps from the USA site, it was down "The TomTom Map Store is closed while we're updating and improving it. Our apologies for the inconvenience. Please check back soon!" which has been like this for over 2-3 weeks. Anyway , the only way I could get the map from the UK site was to go to the UK website and "pretend" that I lived in the UK giving them an address that did not exist, BUT, it did work and my AMex was billed instantly (of course) 35GBP or about 69.00CAD (50% off until Jan.1/08) I recieved my invoice and purchase order number, all legit. BUT because I did not have a login on the UK site, my download was not available in Tomtom Home Ver 2.12, so I had to phone the US site tech support to get them to track down my purchase and then post it on my US login account. This of course took a couple of days for them to do, but they finally managed and I successfully downloaded and installed my 7.10 US and Canada maps. If you do it this way, make sure you talk to someone in "2nd Level Support" as the "winners" in 1st level support are not setup to look into invoices and tracking numbers etc. I am thinking that the US site may not be honoring the 50% off on their site so that is why they are closed down...Hope that is not true...So anyways it is possible to get maps off the UK site.

TomTom ONE v2
Firmware: v7.131
Map: v7.10.1575 US and Canada
Home: v2.12.121

Pleasantly Suprised

As you could see from my prior posts, I was a little apprehensive about trying to install the new 710 map after having problems before. I decided to take the plunge, and it has worked out well so far. The HOME software guided me through the process, I deleted the old map to make room for the new, and it installed the new map with no problems. I really like the ability to make corrections, and I've been making lots!!! I did have one minor issue, and that was losing my favorites when I installed the new map. Does anyone know of a way to save them and reload them after a new map is loaded?

Unless something has changed with the new v7 maps, all you have to do is copy over the 'Mapsettings.cfg' file from the old map.

'Mapsettings.cfg'

Where do I find that file? Once I find it, all I do is overwrite it onto the same file on the new map?

It will be in your map folder, so for example North_America, USA_and_Canada, or Western_Europe.

Make a copy of that file and place it in your new map folder and overwrite the existing one.

I got a free upgrade to 6.75 maps on my TT1 V2 by emailing customer service. Its not the 7.10 maps but it better than nothing and I have access to map share now.

What did you ask/tell them to get the free upgrade?

That I bought my TT1 less than a month ago and that I did not feel I should have to pay almost $100 for a map upgrade after less than a month of ownership. Provided a copy of my receipt and I was good to go.

Will someone with the 7.1 maps tell me if the following POIs are in the maps?

1. POI tourist attractions in Las Vegas, NV or Boulder City, CO - can you find the Hoover DAm?

2. POI colleges - Lasalle University in Phil. PA Does it show day care centers under this POI category.

3. POI casino - Luxor, Mandalay resorts, in Las Vegas, NV.

Thanks
Jim Hall:confused:

1. Hoover Dam POI, Does not seem to be there, although the Star trek and Elvis museum are listed. :p

2. Colleges POI, Four pages of colleges in Philly, no day care centers, at least not that I see.

3 Casino POI, Luxor not found.
