I just got the update to Navcore 7. Naturally I figured I would try the Mapshare function. My TomTom says that the map is out of date and unable to be used with Mapshare.

So I figured I'd see if I can find an updated map and how much it costs. Well tomtom's map website is down for maintenance or something. So I figured I would look in Home. (I have V2) I no longer find anything for North America, Just US and Canada. I also noticed that the US and Canada maps are smaller than the NA map I have installed. Can anyone shed a little light??

BTW, Navcore 7 rules. New features are great.

Right which is why I upgraded to the NA maps. However I can't find them anywhere between tomtom home and their website. I was curious if they got rid of it or not. I hope not, I liked the extra poi's :(

North America maps is not for TomTom One!
it is for other model with 2 G memory.
you can use North America on TT1 (with 2G SD card), but not supported

New maps

I see that the new version 710 map is now for sale. I'm currently using the 665 version. I tried this once before where I deleted current map to make room for the new map, and then I could not download the new map. When I tried to reload the old map from my computer, it said I didn't have room to reload it. I had to finally get help from support, which they were a great help. Long time listening to hold music, but well worth it. My question is, can I buy the new map, delete the old one, and then load the new one? Is using an external card the only way to use a new map?

OK let me try and make this a bit more clear

I have a One V2.
I have already upgraded to the 2gb card and the North America Maps.
Yes I realize this is not supported by TomTom

When I hook my TT up to Home, I see that the latest version for maps is 710. An updated North America Map are not listed for me. Makes sense, I shouldn't be able to use them. So on the bottom of the screen, I UNCHECK show only recommended items. This brings up all of the available maps from around the world. NORTH AMERICA IS NOT LISTED IN THAT LIST.

Is this still because the NA map should not fit on the One? I understand Home does not know that I have the 2gb card installed but you would think it would show the map after I uncheck that box.

*******HANG ON A SEC********

I just looked on TomTom's website. Apparently, switching the location to UK will get their map page to work. If I select the GO 920, I can select the NA map. However I see it's gotten alot heavier. Right at 2gig it looks like.

OK so here is what it looks like I've discovered. Even if you uncheck the box in home, It won't show you the NA map because it's too big for an unmolested (upgraded) TTOne. Going through the UK portion of the website you can download the NA maps, however they have been beefed up to 2gig from the 1.4 gig that version 665 was.

I'm thinking it may just be smarter to upgrade to the smaller detailed maps at this point. I'm not sure if the One could handle a 4gb card. The cheapest card at Circuit City is 45 bucks and it's an SDHC card. Probably would be cheaper too. Your looking at the cost of a bigger card and purchasing a new map.

So I guess I just answered my own question. LOL Thoughts/Comments?

Confused

Yes of course.
Make a backup first!
I suggest a manual backup.
Good Luck

OK, I'm confused. Can I use the new version 710 map on my ONE, or not? Does TomTom plan to release a new map that we can use!?!?!?!

Hello, first post here from Quebec.

The north america map for the GO 720 is 1765 MB
The north america map for the GO 700/910/920 is 2056 MB
I also am using a TT1 new edition US & Canada (version 2 ?) upgraded to 2GB with a SD card, so I'm also wondering which north america map I should try to get. Does someone know which one would work ?

I bought this unit during a trip in the States last september. I've been watching all the threads regarding the latest 7.10 maps and have been in touch with TomTom customer support regarding this. Here is what they have sent me on november 3rd ?

The new map will be officially available in North America next week. The price will be 49.95 USD if you place a manual order through us, or 49.95 Euros if you order through TomTom HOME. If you would like a manual order placed, let us know.

For your other questions, the licensing issues were only for the 6.75 maps. As far as I know there is no similar issue with this new version. Also, version 7.10 will be the latest official version within a week.

With Best Regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team
So by reading this, this is what I replied to them on november 7th:
Hello,
In response to your latest reply:

1) How can I do a manual order with you to order the latest 7.10 maps at US currency instead of BG or europe currencies ?

2) I've upgraded my unit with a 2GB SD card, so I believe I could put in the North America map instead of the US and Canada map. I am told than the North America map is more detailled (more POI's, water plants are on it, etc.). Is this true ? Since my unit has more memory with the added SD card, can that map be acquired instead of the other, and at what price ?

3) Is there any way that the updated maps can be get for free or at less than the current price, since my unit is a month old and proof of purchase can be given ? Isn't there a "latest map garantee" for new units ? BTW, It's a TomTom new edition US and Canada that was bought at the end of september at Best Buy in Myrtle Beach, south carolina. Thank you
I haven't received any reply from them since.

If you try to order the NA map using TomTom's France or Great Britain website, you'll have to open up a new account over there since it looks like the account I opened when I registered my unit was on the Netherlands site even if I was in Canada. If you do try to open a account at those places, you'll have to give a phony address since the system doesn't accept Canada or USA as country. That may cause a problem when paying if you do it by credit card since the address you gave won't match the one on your credit card account and may be refused by the CC company. I didn't get that far because I was afraid about this.

So I'll probably wait until I get a reply from TomTom and do a manual order with them, it'll be cheaper at $49.95 US than 49,95 euros since canadian currency is way high. Hopefully they'll allow me to order the NA 7.10 map.

Yes you can use the 710 maps. However Home will only show you the maps that will fit on the SD card that came with your ONE. Which was 1GB. So the new US + Canada maps will work as well as the detailed regional maps.

Interesting find. I would probably go with the smaller version from the 720. You won't have any room left on the card if you went with the version from the 700/910/920

710 on TT ONE

I purchased USA & Canada map through home yesterday and replaced the old map on my TT ONE (standard 1 gb card) yesterday. I downloaded it (took 30-45 mins.) works fine.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Where you able to get a response to your email regarding placing a manual order? If I can pay in USD, I would buy the North America map.

Hello meltdex, did you pay in Euro or US currency?

Thanks for you welcoming me to the forum. I didn't receive any reply since november 3rd about this. I tried back today using the "my questions" on their site and called technical support last saturday. However I believe you should be able to do it by calling them, they offered me to do it last saturday but after careful thinking and because of my particular situation, I believe I should get it for free. We'll see.

Hello meltdex, did you pay in Euro or US currency?

I called today about this and they said that he was probably quoted that price but misunderstood that it was in Euro's not dollars. So there is no $49.95 dollar upgrade available.

You shouldn't let the price in euros bother you. VISA will just do the conversion for you. They will probably give you a better exchange rate than if TomTom put its prices in US$, which they would no doubt round up.

In your case, purchasing from Canada is going to require a conversion anyway.

The map prices seem to be a real bargain right now. Is there a sale on?

Just ordered at $73.17.

On current canadian currency if I check today's rate on my local bank's website:

$49,95 US dollars = $47,00 canadian dollars (at 0.9409)
$49,95 euros = $68,96 canadian dollars (at 1.380676)
$34,95 great britain pounds = $68,78 canadian dollars (at 1.967986)
Of course, these rates excludes all bank charges and the rest, so mileage may vary but this can at least give a good idea.

So clearly, it is better even on american currency to buy them with the us dollar price of $49,95. Regarding treefrogg43130@'s post where he says that he called today about this and "they said that he was probably quoted that price but misunderstood that it was in Euro's not dollars. So there is no $49.95 dollar upgrade available.", well I can only say that on my first post, I did a copy and paste of their reply they gave me in the "my questions" section of their website, where they clearly stated that "The price will be 49.95 USD if you place a manual order through us, or 49.95 Euros if you order through TomTom HOME.". so i didn't misunderstand this, this comes from them.

If I'm not capable to get the update for free because of my particular situation, I'll do whatever needed to have them honor the price of $49,95 us dollars, since they are the one that did the error, not me.

Find some POIs

Will someone with the 7.1 maps tell me if the following POIs are in the maps?

1. POI tourist attractions in Las Vegas, NV or Boulder City, CO - can you find the Hoover DAm?

2. POI colleges - Lasalle University in Phil. PA Does it show day care centers under this POI category.

3. POI casino - Luxor, Mandalay resorts, in Las Vegas, NV.

Thanks
Jim Hall:confused:
