Moving to TomTom

I'm currently a Garmin user and seriously considering switching to TomTom for HD Traffic, IQ Routes and Google Search.

What's the best way to do this?
I'm thinking getting a iPhone 4 for this. Especially because I then get a iPhone 4 and can pay it monthly on contract.

How good is the iPhone app and reception compared to standalone devices?

How good is the HD Traffic? In South Africa? On the iPhone 4?

What is the data usage on the iPhone 4?

How often is the maps and software upgraded? What are the costs?

What is the difference between the TomTom live devices?

The Tomtom website doesn't say that LIVE services are available on the iPhone in South Africa. It may be a typo, but the website says you must buy a 650 LIVE, 750 LIVE, or 1000 LIVE
