I have a strange problem. After a chat with TomTom support
they gave me a free map update because I told them when
I used HOME it said I had the latest updated map. 710.1584

This is what they told me to do

When you hook up your tomtom go to the start menu and click on my computer and then tomtom drive and delete USA and Canada maps. Then go to my documents click on tomtom and then click on home then delted the download folder and the from the device folder. Then go into tomtom home and click on update my device and an error message pop up and click then update and install .

I did that and all seem to be OK. I got the error and continued on.
The latest firmware along with some other voices and things downloaded fine.
I checked out my TomTom and it still had v710.1584. I connected to Home
and it said the 815 map was on my PC in
C:\Documents and Settings\KK\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\map\North_America_2GB
There is also activation map cab,North America 2GB toc, and 2 gif files.
I think that means they gave me the map. Is there a manual way I can installed them?

They told me to delete the map folder on my TomTom so now I only have
the Guam map. (I did make a complete backup prior)
I put in a service request and have a reference number. If TomTom
is open on Saturday I will call.

This is the error message I get
ERROR: DesktopLib/InstallToDevice/GetInstallable/InvalidArchive2: Invalid archive: C:\Documents and Settings\KK\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\map\North_America_2GB\North_America_2GB.zip

Yes, they are open on Saturdays at 866-486-6866.

Do you happen to have DOT NET FRAMEWORK installed on your computer? (check in add/remove programs). If not, get it here. Install and then try the map installation again.

Do you have XP or Vista? If Vista, try running Home in xp2 compatible mode.

Sorry for your frustrations and I wish I had better advice.

success

It was a bad download from TomTom

After a multiple times trying to install it and seeing it
in my documents, I manually tried to unzip it and found it to be
bad. Deleted it, deleted the 2 folders on my PC that TomTom
told me to do in their email and dowloaded from TomTom again.
This time it installed on my TomTom BUT I would get an error message
when it would calculate my route. It was also locking up on me.
So repeated the complete process again and it worked this time.

My VR works perfectly now. The only thing I miss is the FM transmitter
for nav.

I did all of this on a External 4GB card. I didn't think I could fit everything
on the internal. My internal has older firmware and map and that still
works on the FM transmitter.
So it was an upgrade and a loss of a feature.

Glad it worked for you. Out of curiousity, was the dl using a wireless connection? If so, that often causes a corrupt dl from TomTom with larger files (like maps).

I should have mentioned that in my previous post .... too early, I guess.

success

No it wasn't a wifi connection. Direct to my router. I have capabilities
of better than 10mb download speed. One thing I didn't know is once it gets
downloaded to the PC any future attempts come from the PC and not TOMTOM.
I had to delete the folders on my PC and then it downloaded it from TOMTOM

Painful but success is sweet.
