help! wont update street names...why

i use my tom tom one xls while i drive. i want to use it more to see the streets around me as i drive. it currently always tells me the street im on.....but only a couple surrounding streets pop up....i want it more like a map view.

my friends garmin does that perfectly...why doesnt my tom tom?

I suspect it's a limitation of the mapping data installed on your unit because of size. If you use 2D mode and scan out, sometimes more streets appear (btw, lower end Garmins also 'suffer' from too few roads showing).

i dont see how that makes sense....arent the maps the same for each model?

No they are not. Maps for models such as the 9x Go's with 4 gigs of internal storage get full maps, not the 'squished' map that models with less storage get.

More details, more pois, more side road info, that kind of stuff.

Pretty much all models have a 835 map, but the map itself is different from model to model.
