Tom Tom Nav 6 is great and as a traveller to Europe weekly it is essential. I use it on a E61i.
Problem - I have a new phone N97 (not that great) but I really need to get TOM TOM on it?

Anyone with any ideas? or this not going to happen? anyway to fool the device to use it? I dont really understand as both systems use sybian operating system (S60) but the N97 refuses to install it. (by the way the Nokia Maps are awful) You also have to go online to searchfor destinations and to download maps. That is v expensive if you are roaming. It might be cheaper to take taxi.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

No familiarity with Navigator at all, I have no idea how/whether it can be forced to work. One thing to note - the N97 has Symbian S60 5th edition. E61i has S60 3rd edition.

Tomtom appears to really want to jump back into smartphones with the launch of Navigator 7 for Windows Mobile, and what appears to be Navigator 8 for the iPhone.

Have you tried Ovi maps / turn-by-turn 3.0? It's only a week or two old and is improved over the preinstalled Ovi maps 2.0 version. You can set it up for offline mode, using internal maps without downloading from the server. POI still needs a download, however.

I still find it worse than a Tomtom, but it is free for 3 months, has daily pricing beyond that, and may work as a stopgap until you buy a PND or until more Navigator versions get released (if ever).

Thanks very much for the reply.

I have tried OVI maps which as you say is not that great but I was unaware of the offline mode and will attempt to download some European Maps. I guess the roaming charges could be excessive if you connected all the time.

Sounds like my NAV 6 is gone unless I stick with the old phone. We will see.

Thanks again

hello all

Hello everyone, I have read the whole thread and am somewhat confused, however I am still trying to install all of the different setups discussed so I am still trying to fix my own issue..

I am looking for an Australian Tom Tom set-up on my N97, which has just replaced a N80 and a N73 that both had a copy of Tom Tom software installed.

It was great even though the maps were a bit old... anyway, I really need a copy of it 'soon' as I am going interstate for a long time in 2 days. Only just got the new phone and I thought that my old version would work but it is not allowing me to install as it has an expired certificate, regardless of changing the dates to suit the install file.

Must be the S60 V5 Operating system and I was wondering how to make it work with another copy of the Tom Tom Software. I have tried all of the files listed in this thread, bt they all do not look right (inc Torrents) and what am I missing?

I really do not want to pay for the use of Nokia Maps and even have a BT Nokia GPS unit that may work better than the inbuilt GPS.

Can anyone help me as I am getting a bit desperate?
Has anyone achieved a working version onto a N97 with Australian Maps and would be willing to help me?

Please...

Cheers everyone.
Stephen, Victoria.

Tom Tom NAV 6 does not work on a Nokia N97. I have tried everything and searched everywhere but the N97 uses a S60 V5 which is not compatiable with Tom Tom. Tom Tom UK also dont care and aren't making a version at the moment (so i was told)

The OVI Maps I do not like and it is hassle searching online for desitination (and expensive when roaming) although you can search offline on the internet and then sync the maps to use offline. However this is still frustrating especially if you change your route etc. I dont want to pay a license fee each year as well.

I have looked into and it has had good reviews - GARMIN MOBILE XT which will work on a N97 - it is a little cheaper than Tom Tom and at least they too are specialists at SAT NAV. We will see but might take a bit of time getting used to it

regards
