i thought i was copying my tom tom to my computer drive c after doing so all i am getting now is big red X what did i screw up
 
First thing to do is a dhn (pin) reset. :)

Sounds like you moved instead copied. Just copy all the files and folders back to the unit and you should be good. If that doesn't work search here for Red x and you'll find out what others have done to fix it.
 
There's a small hole under the bottom of the unit that says reset. Take a small blunt object (toothpick, paperclip) and press the little switch inside the hole.

To get it back onto the TT just use explorer and copy the entire backup to the drive letter associated with the unit. Be sure and copy it to the root directory and don't create an additional directory like tomtom backup on the drive.
