TomTom Model(s)
Go 730
I have a Tom Tom Go730 and it has been all good, I mainly use it on my motorbike but today in the car the help function for finding the Police came up all on it's own but I don't know why.
Then it selected Places of Interest within walking distance.

Please help me sort this problem out as I would like to use my Tom Tom for when I go to France and Holland in May/June.

Cheers, Paul

If you have a screen protector fitted to the device remove it as these are known to cause such issues, otherwise try the following.

Use the corner of a cardboard business card, insert the corner of the card between the screen and screen surround (there is a gap), run the corner of the card all the way around the edge of the screen to dig out any dirt/ debris thats fallen in the gap - Mike

Thanks Mike.
I have put a credit card in between the screen and protector is suggested and now have my Tom Tom on charge but I am never sure if it needs to be on when charging with the charger that connects via USB to the computer.
I hope to not find any problems in future but what would you suggest for using it on the bike in future please to stop this from happening again.
Cheers, Paul

Unit does NOT need to be turned on while charging. In fact, this will slow down the charging since the power is split between operating the unit (especially the screen backlight) and charging the battery. Best to leave it off. USB power is only 500mA anyway -- not a lot of current -- so the charge there isn't as fast as the car charger anyway.

As to your original problem -- especially on a bike where dirt and dust are more likely, there's no easy solution. Covering the screen with anything can make it hard to read and operate. Your best bet is just to clean it once in a while as you just have to keep the gunk out of the edges.

Your screen protector may or may not have contributed to the problem. Most of the time, they don't shrink (at least the good ones don't) and create pressure that enables buttons. But I do recommend not cutting them really close to the screen edge (counterintuitive, I know) since that makes it easier to trap crap between the edge of the protector and the bezel.
