TomTom Model(s)
Go DIscover 7" (12m old)
I have a 12 month old 7" Go Discover. It used to connect 100% of the time via my iphone 14. I dropped the phone, it was replaced with an identical one by Apple. Everything is fine on the phone, except that now the TT connects initially, but after 15 mins the 'no live traffic' icon appears. If I go to bluetooth settings on the iphone, select TomTom, and click on 'disconnect', it disconencts and then reconnects, at which point live traffic reappears. For 15 mins. then I have to do it again!

I have reset the tomtom and gone through the set up procedure 3 times to no avail, it still disconnects after about 15 mins.

Anyone got any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem but with an iPhone 12. Previous iPhone 6's and and 8 didn't do this. I have to do the same thing as the OP in order to reconnect temporarily.

Thanks. I saw this but I don't understand how I connect using wifi? Is there a tutorial? Do I just use the hotspot and switch off BT? I think that might stop me pairing the phone with my car in order to make and receive calls. Is that possible?
Many thanks.
You need not shut off BT on your phone, you will shut it off on your Discover by unpairing it from your phone.
Then set up your phone to provide a WiFi hotspot and connect your Discover to that, replacing the BT connection to your device.

Well I thought it had worked but now all I get is a message saying my iPhone network is out of range when it's less than two feet away in the car! The device sees endless other wi-fi's around me but mine is always out of range. I have tried re booting the phone and the satnav and switching wifi off and on again all to no avail. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If your Discover sees lots of other WiFi systems, and only has trouble seeing your phone, you have internal antenna or other RF issues with your phone. Even if your phone has accidentally been set to BTLE mode, it should be doing better than 2 feet.

Check to see how far other devices (like a friend's phone) can see your phone's WiFi.

Thanks for responding so quickly. It's much appreciated. I just deleted the phone and connected again at home and it seems fine again including switching the satnav off and back on again so I am a bit perplexed. I will just have to monitor it and see what happens. Thanks again.

If it goes south again, try to perform the above experiment seeing your phone with another phone at the same point in time while your Discover has trouble seeing your phone. It's possible that any issue with your phone is intermittent, so being able to test this while you can see the issue on your Discover would uncover this, or at least give us another data point. I've found TT WiFi connections to be very stable.

Thank you I will give it a try if it happens and report back. Many thanks.

I'm the OP. As before - I have a 12 month old 7" Go Discover. It used to connect 100% of the time via my iphone 14 but recently the TT connects initially, and after 15 mins the 'no live traffic' car-X icon appears. If I go to bluetooth settings on the iphone, select TomTom i, and click on 'disconnect', it disconencts and then reconnects, at which point live traffic reappears. For 15 mins. then I have to do it again!

I have reset the tomtom and gone through the set up procedure 5 times to no avail, it still disconnects after about 15 mins.

It connects via buetooth obviously, and the personal hotspot icon is visible too. Would I be better getting it to conenct via wifi than bluetooth? And how do I do this? Do I delete the BT connection on the discover, and in wifi log it onto the phone personal hotspot?

Thanks for your help

Have you tried the login procedure on manage by @canderson

Hi, no, sorry to be thick, where can i find that?
It doesn't seem to be available. It seems to just click back round to this page.
Choose your iphone from the settings in the Tom Tom. It should ask for a password. Go to personal hotspot in your iPhone settings and switch that on. There should be a password displayed under the Allow others to join button which should also be on. Enter that password when prompted by the Tom Tom and it should connect up. IMPORTANT: In my case on an iPhone 12 whenever the satnav is rebooted or goes to sleep if I leave the car momentarily I have to switch the Allow others to join button off and on again in order to make the satnav see the iphone hotspot. It just claims it is out of range if I don't. Weird but I can live with that. So far it's worked numerous times and doesn't drop the connection during an uninterrupted journey. I hope that helps.

In the tomtom settings, I deleted the iphone's bluetoorth link. I turned the personal hotspot on, and added a wifi link to my iphone.

I have found it works really well now, it never disconnects from traffic.

However I do have to remember to 'activate' the personal hotspot, as it goes dormant and invisible when it hasn't been active for 5-10 mins, before I get into the car so the tomtom can connect to it.

I'm not sure why this isn't more evident as a fix, as the bluetooth connection is very flakey.

I share your frustration with having to turn the hotspot back on every time I get into the car. This is a ridiculous state of affairs. I can't use the regular BT connection because the phone link to the car's speakers doesn't work. I really don't think TT have thought this through. The old 2G system was so much more convenient. Does anyone have a way to automatically turn on the hotspot when the TT is started?

I've been using (for a couple of years now) an Android app called Tasker to cause the WiFi hotspot on my phone to engage as soon as it sees the BT from my vehicle. It does have a bit of a learning curve when it comes to programming, though.

I have the same problem with my TomTom Go Discovery The traffic subscription constantly disconnects To add to the confusion I think the following may be happening
Yesterday when I parked next to a Kinch bus which had a wifi signal the traffic reconnected and when I pulled into a Waitrose car park the traffic again became active

I think the Live traffic connects to available wifi signals eg Kinch bus parked in road and the wifi signal at Waitrose then when you drive off the signal is lost

I have been in contact with TomTom and I have performed all of the steps advised but the problem still persists
This issue has been a reoccurring problem for the entire 12 months have had the Discovery and this is my third TomTom I have had 3 previous models in the last 15 years and the Discovery is only ToTom have had issues with
Other
I have a Jaguar xf Sportbrake could the heated windscreen element creating a Farrady cage be an issue
