I have a one 130 tom tom and I have tried numerous times to conect to my new computer which has windos 7 I cannot find anything to fix this what happens is that the tomtom asks if I want to connect I click yes and it tries to connect but doesn't and my computer doesn"t " see" it and it doesn't show up in the tomtom home, I even had sent the thing back and got a refurbished one with the same result as they asked me to do becouse support cound not help I would appriciate any help to get this thing recognized by my computer, it shows up in the device manager but not in the "my computer" where the other drives show up.
thanks for any help you can give

Suggestions:
1. Try resetting the device (hold the power button down for 10 seconds or so)

2. Try a different usb port, preferably on back on unit

3. Try a different cable.

I did that already and to no avail and I I am sure it is not the cable
any other things to try? I will say this it is showing up in the device manager but not in the "computer" window where the other drives show up.

Tomtom has had all sorts of problems with Windows 7 compatibility.

One member said that they held the power button forever (Tomtom shuts off, restarts, shows a black and white debug screen, and then eventually turns on again), that when finally turns on again it connects to Windows 7.

Maybe that will work for you?

I had exactly the same problem, TomTom Go 520 worked fine on Vista but since upgrading to Windows 7 it wasn't recognised by the PC. It did work on my daughters Mac....

Any how after trying all sorts of stuff what fixed it for me was finding TomTom Home in the start menu, then right click on it and choose properties.

Once the properties box pop's up choose the 'compatibility' tab.

My settings are 'Run this program in compatibility mode' - windows XP (Service Pack 3)

Then at the bottom under 'Privilege Level' tick the 'Run this program as administrator'

This worked for me after messing around for this since January!!!

Sounds like a computer firewall issue.

Can you get to the website?
https://home.tomtom.com/redir/services

You should see a list of services on the website when you do that (like below):
<service type="account" baseurl="https://home.tomtom.com/account/"/>
<service type="shop" baseurl="https://community.tomtom.com/shop/"/>
<service type="remoteXUL" baseurl="https://home.tomtom.com/cens/tests/"/>
<service type="tripRecording" baseurl="http://trip.services.tomtom.com/trip-recording/spooler/"/>
<service type="payment" baseurl="https://community.tomtom.com/payment/"/>

If you get some type of error and not the list above, check your windows firewall settings. Also, is HOME authorized by your firewall to access the web?

Xl340

I have the same probs as everyone else - same symptoms - tried the same fixes - no good. The XL340 is fine - it works on XP. Ive tried compatability settings, cables, reboots you name it.

I had a dozen emails with TT support and in the end they blamed MS (would u believe) and I still dont have a W7 comnpatiblt TT. Fortunately I have an XP netbook that works fine BUT u would expect some more cooperation from TT/MS. GPS are getting so cheap now I am about to throw the XL340 in the bin and buy something else.

Anyone tried MS - any answers from them?

i have tried all these suggestions, turned off the firewall and allowed tomtom home access through firewall but still the same message

Do you have the opportunity to try to install Home on a computer that uses a different ISP? It just may be an issue at that end.

If you have a friend or family member using a different ISP than you for their computer, maybe they'll let you install Home on their machine.
