10 Minutes to find a Signal

Hi,

I bought a Tom Tom whilst in the US and it worked fine.

Since returning to Europe I have purchased the European maps
and it works fine.

The problem I have is it takes 10 minutes after switching on to
lock onto the satellite. Once it finds its it works perfect.

I have a feeling that it is somehow looking for US satallites first and
being unable to find them it is then locking onto local satellites.

Can someone confirm my thoughts and if I am correct, can you
tell me how to get the device to reset my positions to eurpose
based sattelites by default

It's not unusual the first time a unit is turned on many thousands of miles from the previous location that it may indeed take that long or longer to establish a gps fix.

However, subsequent power ons in the new location should not take anywhere near that long.

There are no such things as 'USA' satellites or 'European' as such. That said, try this:
1. Using Explorer, delete anything in the ephem folder on the unit.
2. Go here:
c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\ephemeris\ and delete any sub-folders found there.
3. Connect unit to Home and a new gpsquickfix should be offered. Install and disconnect properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.

Turn on unit and, indeed, the first time might take a few minutes (keep it in an open area and in a stationary position) but future sessions should be faster.
