I really don't want to have to fork out for a new sat nav right now (I know I could use my phone, but would prefer to have a dedicated sat nav in the car). Might this be a problem with the interface in the car, as opposed to the unit itself?

I have a BMW bought new in July 2022 and bought my current sat nav about the same time and, when I plugged it in to the cigarette lighter socket, there was no power to the sat nav. I was using the supplied charging cable so assumed this was faulty and Tom Tom sent me a replacement. To my astonishment this didn’t t work either. Upon investigation I discovered that, for reasons unknown, the cigarette lighter socket is wired differently from the norm - there’s another power take off in the boot and this worked OK so it may be worth checking this on your car.

A USB-A port outputs 500 mA, while a GPS requires 1200 mA to 2400 mA for newer models.
