After I download new maps my XXL 540 asks for my password and when I enter it the devices does not do anything. There is no reset button, that I can see. Any suggestions?

The reset on a 540 is to hold the power button for about 20 seconds until you hear the drums start to play, then release quickly.
Did you accept any other updates other then the 890 map?
When you hook your unit up to your computer, does your computer still recognize it as an external drive?
