I'm still amazed that people are still opening these spam messages. One posting here has had 17 views!

I think most people realize that if you just hover your cursor on the message title, a pop-up box appears showing you the first line or so. It's easy to spot the spam and not waste your time.

Is it against the rules to read a thread or something? Never heard anyone complain about spam VIEWS.

Anyways I go in the thread so I can report the post. I have reported over 6 of them already.

My point was simply to show that you can see part of the contents of a post without opening it. This way you don't waste you own time.

In addition, if the spammers see that they are getting views, this will only encourage them to send us more of their garbage.

They do not need any more encouragement - the word must be getting around about how vulnerable this site is - it still badly needs to be fixed!

Yeah but I'm with sageuvagony: there are easily 17 of us that report spam when we see it, and I don't know a way to report spam without triggering the Views counter. If you know of a way, please describe it so we can all _not_ encourage them.

Not as quick but.......if you see a listing for a message you are pretty sure is spam (the subject heading is usually a giveaway), you could click on the Quick Links link at the top of the screen, then Private Messages, then Send Message and send it to a Super Moderator such as Pedro2NR, digital-flex or me, dhn. The subject of your message could simply be 'spam' and put the name of the spammer in the text box (copy and paste works well).

It really is a much faster process than it seems from how I described it above but you don't have to view the spam contents this way.

Don't do a thing.

Why bother.
Either you guys have seen it before me or will see it soon.

I am sure you do what you can and don't need the additional workload of getting messages about it.
Cheers,

many days I'm up at 3:30 a.m. eastern time USA.

I report so many spammers/porn....I lose count

And when I log in for the first time about 6:30 am, I get the notifications and delete the posts and ban the posters as fast as I can. The other mods do the same when they can as well......

We appreciate the notifications we get though sometimes we can't reply personally to every email received.

There have been instances where a Spammer has made multiple posts and the only one that gets deleted is the "one" I've reported and not the rest of their threads.Very frustrating on our end that we must open each post and Report them individually.I've never tried your method and will definitely give it a try,but just thought I'd post as to why the spam threads get read.

Most if not all spammers never come back to see their results, its a hit and run tactic.

Let me explain the process as far as I deal with spammers. When I log into this site (as much as possible ..... but, you know, a job and some sleep get in the way  ) I click on 'New Posts' to see the new listings since my last visit. When I see an obvious spam, I first access a link I have as a SuperMod and ban the user permanently. I then go back and delete the entire thread of the user. If I see more than one post, as A.B. points out does happen, I mass delete them all and then move on to the next spammer, if there is one, and repeat the process.

OTOH, when I log into my email and see posts from users who have notified us of spammers (remember, all mods get the posts), I click on the link that's provided and, if the post is still there (other mods may have gotten there first and already deleted the post) I delete it, ban the user, and move on to the next email [which is why I don't see all posts by the same spammer at this point).

And then back to the actions taken in paragraph one......

All SuperMods perform the same kind of action. We delete the spammers and ban them as soon as we can.

But, when spam shows up between the hours of, say 2:30 Eastern to about 6 am Eastern, I'm (hopefully) asleep or just getting up for work. Meanwhile, Pedro2NR, being on the West Coast, is probably sleeping during those hours as well.

That's why that spam lingers on this Board till we can get to it.

Hopefully, the above information will convey how spammers are dealt with. Trust me, we mods are as frustrated as you, if not more, when this junk shows up.

Very well explain dhn.
I am also monitoring who is online. The spammers do have an icq account which is a red flag for me to ban them before they post which I have done many times.
