TomTom Model(s)
GO4voo.710
Hi
just bought this secondhand. Works fine but out of three screws holding the mount together, 2 are totally missing!! So hard to believe a previous owner could be such an idiot. I managed to get the last one out to try to measure it up so I could buy new ones, the nominal diameter is 2.42mm, i.e. put it in a vernier and that is what I get. The length, minus the head is 8mm, but I cannot find out the pitch size. My thread measuring device is AF/ metric fine and nothing fits. Does anyone have any ideas? The only thing I can think of doing is to take it to Screwfix or Barlows fasteners or somewhere to get it measured, but it is so tiny it is closer to something used in watchmaking, apart from the security head of course? Wonder if Tomtom sell them at a reasonable price, or would they sell them at all? Any help at all would be appreciated.

Don't think TomTom sells parts at all. If you google 'SatNav Repairs in the UK', you may have more luck.

Chances are that it is 2.5 mm with the crests polished.
How many threads do you count over the 8 mm measured.

With your handle you should be in touch with a local Model Engineering or Live Steam Society. Google if you do not know any.
Most anyone building will have Imperial and Metric pitch gauge to be accurate

Hi. My handle refers to my great grandfather who opened one of the first garages in Hull and had a Stanley Steamer which was a car. But I am only into petrol or diesel driven cars. I do have both metric and Imperial pitch gauges but neither shows a match. I am wondering of it might not be BA or BSW. I think I'll just take it to a local factor to see if he can work it out then sell me some. (Some chance!). If not ... We'll see.

thanks for the suggestions guys

Right. 7BA would fit the the diameter.
If you are still in the Hull area I know a fellow who has a set aof BA taps and dies and it active in the Model Engineering Society.

On the other hand, unless your fixture was made locally BA threads are not very likely.
Good luck.

Ta Boat, I think they may well be BA 7 screws and there are suppliers of these out there. Trouble is counting threads per inch which all depends at which point on the circumference of the screw you start your count! But it looks likely and costs not TOO much to get a few. But I'll certainly look at the site, the others have a £10 minimum order.

What is more annoying is, I was persuaded by tomtom's site that upgrading my western Europe map was possible, as they knew what machine I had when it all logged on, so I sent them the money. £55 odd. Once they'd got it, they then told me I could not download what I had paid for! Great! So at the moment screws are the least of my worries.

I think I'll try saving the contents of the SD card to a space on my laptop then delete the folder "Western Europe" from the SD card and then try to download it off Tomtom.

Fingers crossed.
