What is wrong with this forum?

I am sick and tired of being affronted by hard core porn on this site. If you can't get a handle on it, close the site. I want to stay up to date without worrying about sick, perverted material splashed all over my screen.

I can't even view the rss feed at work for fear of what may come up. Sick.

I have not ever seen any porn related content on this site as of yet.

Maybe you have some type of spyware or malware on your pc. Might want to run a Virus Scan and or a Spybot Scan on your computer.

There are spammers daily that come in and post spam threads including porn. We are trying to prevent this from happening and at the same time, cleaning up all threads that may show this type of spam.

I'm usually in here about 3:30 a.m. USA eastern time,

I report " many " porn postings....some with pic's and some without....I guess I report upwards of 7 posts, on some days.

I pointed out the " work place " problem in another thread a couple weeks ago....which is a real problem for forum members who like to view this site at work.

PSJ does a great job of reporting the posts. All reported posts go to all moderator's email address.
If I am out, I try to delete the posts on my iPhone when possible

Yep, I try to check in about 7 am Eastern and also see Marc's emails. I then log into the links provided in the mail. Sometimes, the link shows nothing because Pedro got there first! (or one of the other mods).

If I see them, I kill 'em off!!

I appreciate your efforts to clean it up but the problem is that I view the RSS feed in google reader and they don't get cleaned from the feed. Not sure what can be done about that but that is (or was...) my primary tool for viewing what's new on the forum.

I subscribe to a lot of feeds and don't see this problem with a single other feed that I subscribe. There's obviously a lack of sufficient controls over who is posting to this particular forum.

Hopefully, one of the admin people (who have control over software running this Board) will see your posting or you can contact one of the admin's directly with any concerns you have.

We moderators have no control over Board software.

1.) If you pay you can make demands. If not, you take what you are given. No one forces you to be in this forum.

2.) If you are using RSS feeds for your convenience and don't like what you get, go manual.

3.) Learn not to click on post that are obviously unsavoury ones.

4.) If you are reading this forum at work you are stealing from your employer.

5,) Now, stop being a cry baby. Unsubscribe, if what you get doesn't suit you. The world does not owe you a living.

I agree too - BUT - it is getting out of control.

An earlier poster had mentioned a fix with respect to the site system/software - is something like that out of the question?

If you only rely on manually removing it - you are going to be very busy and it will continue to grow. Just look at the list of garbage today so far....

That is why a system fix would be much better (unless it is out of the question).

Do you have a recommendation for a 'system fix' ?

You'd be surprised just how resourceful spammers are at getting into popular forums. It's almost impossible to stop determined spammers without manually moderating every single new post (which is very time consuming and delays posted messages).

I run a couple of forums (not this site). One minor flaw I see in this site's registration process is their "NoSpam verification question (1 + 1 Equals)".
1) A better question would require the registrant to go find the answer to the question in a 'New Users Go Here First' forum entry. A little more trouble for new users to find the answer (because they have to go look at that forum post), but stops a majority of spammers (many spammers have too many sites to spam to spend time looking it up).
2) The question on the registration page never seems to change. Spammers are smart and will tell their spamming software the blanks to fill out on that form. So frequently changing the question, will stop more spam bots.
3) Order of questions on the registration form - scripts can be added that move around the verification question. This also helps stop spam bots.

But in this site's defense - there is no 100% fool-proof way to prevent SPAM on any forum. The moderators on this site to a fantastic job of cleaning it all up. I rarely see any posts (and if I do they are gone pretty quickly).
