Having had my ONE 130 for a couple of months, now, I've decided to upgrade to an XL 330S.
Is it possible to save My Favorites, voices, or anything else, and install them into my new TT?

Thanks,
EJ

If you use the information in this link, then you can copy the custom ov2 file to the new map folder on the 330 unit; further, you can re-download voices from TomTom.

Thanks, for the link, dhn. But, it looked like a lot more work than necessary. It's not like I have a lot of personal stuff on the ONE. So, I tried uninstalling TT HOME, and starting over with my new XL 330S. However, I cannot get my computer to control the device. Do I need to make a change somewhere, so HOME recognizes my new TT??

EJ

Did you remember to create a separate account at TomTom for your new unit? You can even use a phoney email address but do create that account.

TomTom Home will have to download a specific dll file that coresponds to the Navcore version installed to your device, quite often there is a delay in this file being made available, without the file the opperate my go function simply won't work. I am not aware of anyway to force Home to download the required file as its an automatic process, when it gets the file the opperate my go will work - Mike

Thanks, guys.
But, is it possible to change the e-mail address on the original file, so I can have my correct address associated with the new unit?

EJ

Its going to cause you far less trouble to use a new e-mail account for the new device, remember it doesn't have to be a true active e-mail account just something in the correct e-mail format for the stupid system to accept it, for example:

(e-mail address removed) would work quite nicely even if you never receive anything as the account is simply made up, all you need to know is that the device works. Trying to get TomTom to use an old e-mail that is already linked to a device will cause you nothing but trouble in th elong run, its simply not worth it - Mike

Well, I tried deleting all the TT references on my PC. And, starting over, again.

Connect, install HOME, "Manage my Device", all work fine.
However, when I try to "Operate my device" I get the following error mesage...

"This functionality is not yet supported for your combination of navigation device, your devices application version and your computer?s operating system."

BTW, if i try to "Update my XL", HOME just sits there and does nothing.

Where am I going wrong?

The 130 and 330 run similar software versions, so you should be able to copy mapsettings.cfg via explorer from one device to another and get your favorites moved over.

The free voices can be moved over by copying the voices folder, but it's probably easier to just redownload them to the new Tomtom in HOME. I've never purchased a premium voice so I don't know if they can be moved over.

You can reassign your active email to your new device. Home permits one change every 6 months, if you want to change it more often you have to call up phone support each time.

You can use a fake email address instead, but beware that any HOME-based purchases (maps, traffic, etc) will send your receipt to your registered email. So if it's a fake you won't get a purchase receipt.

To change devices, just plug your new device into home and it should ask to reassign your Tomtom to the new model.

It's also a good idea to rename the mydocuments\tomtom\home\download folder to mydocuments\tomtom\home\downloadOLD whenever you reassign email to a new device. HOME gets confused if it thinks some older downloaded things are assigned to your new Tomtom.

Tomtom home preloads newer software versions for the XL330 than HOME can recognize. If you want to downgrade to a compatible version, follow these steps.

Huh? These steps aren't any different than what I described here...

What am I missing?

I thought you just cleared out your PC. These steps refer to clearing out your Tomtom.

It may be easier to just extract the contents of this cab onto your Tomtom, overwriting when prompted, and delete the ttgo.bif file. Then turn it off/on a few times, then try reconnecting to HOME.

If HOME can now properly run "operate my XL", then copy your mapsettings.cfg file from your ONE, and run these steps.

Thanks, mvl,
I finally got it.
Although, it was a little scary. After I extracted the cab and deleted the ttgo.bif file, the device would not turn on without holding the button down for a LONG time. But, eventually, it did. Reconnected to HOME and updated a file it asked for and it seems to work now.

Thanks, for your help and patience,

EJ

Something is really odd, now. I made a couple of changes to 'Favorites', and car symbol. So, I made a backup.
Now, the unit will not turn, and stay on. I have to hold the power button for a long time, the start-up screen appears, briefly. Just as quickly, it changes to a different screen, the one with the yellow progress bar at the bottom. The progress fills, and the unit shuts off.

The unit appears to operate just fine in HOME. Except that I cannot change to computer voice through HOME.

Now, what did I do?

EJ

Oh, and one other thing, it no longer asks if I want to connect to HOME. It does it automatically. Even though I made the change in HOME preferences.

Connect the unit to Home. Use the emulator (Operate my Go) to make achange to one favourite: Add one, delete one, edit one, you choose. Disconnect the unit properly from the computer (Use Home's icon disconnect in the bottom right of the screen).

See if things are ok now.

What's the difference between, using that blue icon and using the
File>Log Out, then Device>Disconnect Device process?

EJ

Well, no difference. Also, didn't help any.
Before this whole ordeal, when I disconnected from HOME, the device would stay on and I could use the device, still connected to usb port for power. Now, the device shuts off after disconnecting from HOME.

This is getting very frustrating. And, I have not received a reply from TT Support, since I sent them an e-mail, a week ago.

Calling them (866-486-6866) is always more effective than emails.

You have tried a reset of the unit?

It feels like I'm doing the reset all the time, now. I have to hold the button for a long time to get the unit to start.
However, if I hold it a bit longer, after the start, it shows an information screen. Do I need to keep holding it even longer in order to reset?

May have to call support, if they're not going to reply to e-mail.

Thanks, for your help,
EJ

How do I know when it's reset?

I had it working great, last night. Connected to HOME properly, everything was working just right.
Today, I get the same stupid error I was getting before.

edited to remove <rant>. I apologize.
